I'm a die hard fighting game fan. Ever since I first played Guilty Gear I've had to at least touch every other figher. To me UMVC3 changes the game enough to feel like a new expansion does to heroclix players, theres new team compositions new strategies and the tiers are rebuilt. I'm glad to pay $60 to see the end of Dark phoenix's. Seriously, lvl 4 xfactor wesker is a vacation by comparison. This has seriously been the way capcom keeps their games balanced since the 90's, and their not the only company in this niche that uses new games to generate balance either.
One thing I don't understand is the people that act like they are being extorted to buying the newer game. If your casual and are having fun with the origional then don't upgrade. If you like the game enough so that you feel it a necessity then you should be happy to compensate the company for their work modifying the game. MK's DLC characters were 5 bux a piece, if capcom used the same model then UMVC3 would have cost $60 in characters anyway.
Just picked this game up yesterday. I've been playing around with She-Hulk, Nemesis, Vergil, Amaterasu and Phoenix. Found MODOK not to my liking. The game overall definitely is though.
Right on Sigdr! Just picked up UMvC3 yesterday as well. Had to play Nova, Rocket Raccoon and MODOK. Had a blast. Hawkeye is a biyatch though. Tough. Will use him next!
Is there a trick to playing She-Hulk that I'm missing? I've been playing her the most by far and yet I seem to fare much worse with her than with others.

She is tough because her best weapon is her dash attack but it is pretty easy to block and counter. However I still spam it with the odd wall bounce leg drop thrown in for good measure and the occasional lamp post swing. She is definitely an all out offensive character, the only option with her is to be unrelenting like a weird mix of Guy and Zangief.

her crouching A attack beats out alot of other attacks and her hit confirms are pretty safe compared to alot of the cast. One of her assists ( I forget the name) is a low hitting attack that is one of the better low hitting assists for starting unblockables.
