Because it takes less time for Batman to put on his belt than it does for Thanos to assemble the means to conquer the universe.

Not much less time, though. Batman changes like a girl, and Thanos conquers universes for breakfast.

In all seriousness, I don't gather that it shows any preference to one event over the other, if that's what you're implying.

Its possible that the event only needs six months to fully cook, while the Gauntlet needed eight, what with all the gems and all.

However, the Gauntlet required an 8 month event to represent the Elders, the gauntlet itself, and a final challenge for Thanos. WK thought so and, perhaps more importantly, Marvel thought so too.

IMHO, I think it is a way to test out the event system. 8 months is a long time but a go one to test it out and rid the system of any bugs. Possible there is more to come with the event system and prizes.
