in all honesty a lot of people forget negative effects.
i can't count how many times i had to remind players of Champion's trait... everyone wanted to remember the bonus, but couldn't remember the detractor...
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing

Had that happen in a game last week, though not with the Champion.
I was playing Hulkbusters. I remembered that they got a +1 to Attack, but completely forgot that the opposing characters (Cosmic Hulk BTW) got a -1 to Defense due to the ATA. With a 10 Attack against an 18 Defense (forgetting the -1 that would have made it a 17), I rolled a 7, and promptly used a theme team PC re-roll, only to roll a 7 again and use my last theme team re-roll, only to miss completely.
After the actions were over, I remembered the -1 Not that it really mattered, as it was a fun game and I knew that I was going to lose, but I hate forgetting things like that.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........

Your situation is actually one I had a question about I meant to ask. Outside of friendly games where it's not a big deal, at what point can you call a "mulligan" basically?
Like in your situation, if you remembered the -1 after you theme teamed it for the first time, could you have reminded the the opponent and then have the first attack count? What if you forgot, but didn't take another action and remembered a few seconds later? Is the taking another action what prevents changing what happened?
Something similar happened to me in a friendly game this weekend, where I forgot about Commander El's defense bonus to Kryptonian's. The opponent rolled and hit Supergirl with her normal defense (but should have missed with the El bonus). I theme teamed the roll and he hit again. I started clicking, and then I remembered the bonus. Like I said, it was a friendly game and I was playing with a really nice guy, and he agreed to say the first attack missed, and I allowed him to reroll the original attack since it was my brain fart that screwed up. Still felt bad, and I should have just taken the result of mistake, although I'd do the same for an opponent.
In a tournament setting, is there a line drawn about this as to when something is allowed to be changed? I remember another discussion about this involving game effects that are non-optional and have to happen even if the opponent forgets, like Mystics and Super Senses for example. Does this have anything to do with it as well?
Sorry for the long rambling question. Just been curious about this for a while and how it should be handled in competitive games.
To me Cheating would imply you knew what you were doing and purposely ignored the rules without getting caught.
I'd say you more misplayed the game, and nobody realized it.
I suppose..., but it still bothers me to know I played something wrong.
I mean real wrong. I had Modok Warbound to Rip Hunter. Modok Carried Rip around and could not be outwitted plus the PC and Later Perplex...
that was like the central part of my whole team.......
That's what I get for building armies at 2 am the night before an event.
Who is the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?
