Ok, I've been searching the rules for a while now, and I'm kinda stuck. I've fallen victim to the WoS Nightcrawler too many times now, and was thinking about how to get around it. My thought process was to target an adjacent space (vacant) with energy explosion. This would at least get around Stealth & Shape Change.
My logic is as such. I can target a figure in a space, and I can target an object in a space, and I can target a wall or printed blocking terrain. So, why couldn't I target a printed hindering terrain space or empty space?
I'm sure that I can't, but at the very least I'd like to know where the rule is that prevents this from happening.
For those of you that need visual aids, here is my thought:
E = Fig using EE
H = Hindering Terrain
_ = Clear Terrain
N = Nightcrawler (Using Stealth)
Basically, the questions are this:
A) Can I target the empty terrain with EE?
B) Can I target the Hindering terrain with EE?
C) If the Nightcrawler was standing on an object instead of printed Hindering, could I target the object with EE and hit nightcrawler?
Thanks for the helps guys...I'm trying anything I can to find another way to get around that piece.
ENERGY EXPLOSION Give this character a ranged combat action to make an attack that deals no damage. For each target character successfully hit, all adjacent characters are attacked as well.
P.s. sorry I'm giving the short answer, it's hard to type out on my phone.

The problem with trying to do any of this with Energy Explosion is this part of EE: "For each target character successfully hit, all adjacent characters are attacked as well." Since no target character was successfully hit, you would not be able to do any "splash" damage to Nightcrawler.
For advice on Nightcrawler, try outwitters that can get around stealth (Talia and Daredevil, for example). Battle Fury can get around the Shape Change. Damage that isn't from an attack as well (Nightshade, Tabitha Smith, and Rogue are good examples here).
