Well its half way time. Whats everyone's predictions on the way things go in the second half of the season and into the playoffs.
Here are mine:
AL East champs: Yankees- They are obviously back on track but I could still see Baltimore or the Rays still competing with them in the end.
Al Central Champs: Tigers- They sit in 3rd right now but I think they have the makeup to pull it out in the end. That division will likely come down to the last week of the season but Jim Leyland is a smart manager and could easily put them in position to win the division in september.
Al West Champs: Rangers- I am biased as a Rangers fan but even so I don't think the race will be close. Half the Rangers pitching staff has been hurt and with them all getting ready to come of the DL they are poised to get back on a hot streak. I don't ever count the Angels out however because they always seem to find a way to be competitive every year.
Al Wild Card: LA and Baltimore- I think LA will win more games than the Central division winner so no one in the central has a shot at the WC at all. Baltimore or Tampa could really go here for the other WC team but at this point Baltimore is just more of a feel good story for me so I want them to pull it out. Out of this group I think LA beats baltimore in the 1 game playoff
NL East: Nationals- I think they have a lot of energy and even though they have some young guys I think they will still pull off what is really a pretty weak division though Atlanta is always dangerous and the Mets have Dickey who is lights out this year so they will stay dangerous.
NL Central: Pirates- This is one I would love to see happen and think they are poised to make it happen. Though this may end up the most tight race in baseball between them and the Reds and Cards. I just feel like this young Pirates team is riding a wave right now and even though the franchise has been a loosing for years you couldn't tell these young guys that. Part of that has to do with Clint Hurdle and the philosophy he brings to the ball field. These guys want it and though they may not make it far in the playoffs I think winning the division is distinctly possible.
NL West: I do think the Dodgers will end up pulling it out. I just don't think the Giants are nearly as strong a team and I think with the rest of the season playing out the Dogers will widen that half game lead quite a bit.
NL Wild Card: Cards and Mets- I think both teams will have a strong second half just not strong enough to win their divisions. It will also make for a great 1 game playoff at the end of the year with the Mets probably taking that game with Dickey on the mound.
I think its Rangers(again bias) and Dodgers in the WS. Though Im not counting out the possibility of Yanks and Nats getting there as well.
