The guards were an extra life for Mal after he used an action to make sure they were his. If they were killed they would have risen as undead. If they were saved by votes they would have been a chance to bodyguard kills for anyone who voted to save them.

The rats were lowering the vote threshold.

The resurrection was actually started by Mal. He wanted to bring back Darq, and he was going to Frankenstein's monster him, but died before it could be done.

In zyx's last game the same thing happened, except the player was still alive and he became more powerful than anyone.

I was playing my cards close to the vest the first time as I knew I had an extra life. Then I hoped I could avoid detection for a while and work in secrecy. It was pure bad luck that the lynch train started while I was sleeping.

I had fun as long as I lasted.
