Getting a co-worker into clix (battle report tomorrow)
Heya folks! So, one of my co-workers is a big comic book fan (Marvel) and has heard me go on and on about Heroclix, especially leading up to my vacation to go to Gencon last week. He's been asking me to teach him how to play so I finally put together a couple of somewhat newbie-friendly teams and we will be throwing down tomorrow during our lunch break. Here are the teams:
Avengers
FFCW003 Captain America
WS007 Spider-Man
GG207 Hulk
CW013 Vision
FFCW006 Scarlet Witch
CW039 Hawkeye
FFCW005 Mockingbird
The battle will take place in the Quinjet Hangar from the Chaos War Fast Forces pack.
I liked both teams as they possess some power figs while also remaining very "theme-y". The X-Men team is literally based on the characters he listed off when I asked him who his favorite X-Men were
Anyways, I'm more putting this up here for the discussion and the battle report which I will post tomorrow.
So, after giving him the rundown of all of the basics (one action per turn per fig, it can be either a move or attack action, here are what the powers on your guys do etc.) we decided to roll off. I was playing the Avengers and he played the X-Men and I won map roll. I start off on the side of the map with the Quinjet facing away from me.
Avengers Turn 1:
The Avengers move up with Captain America taking the lead on the level 1 terrain with Mockingbird behind him. Hulk (picking up a Heavy Object) and Spider-Man hop over the elevated terrain and camp out near the hindering square near the back of the wing. Vision carries Hawkeye onto the elevated and Scarlet Witch moves up as well with her Phasing/Teleport. She Perplexes up Cap's defense and I pass.
X-Men Turn 1:
Nightcrawler carries up Cyclops to the elevated terrain and hides in a square of hindering, placing Cyclops in clear elevated terrain. Beast and Emma Frost follow suit, positioning themselves next to Cyclops. Rogue carries Wolverine and ends next to a Heavy Object, setting Wolverine down to block off the stairs.
Avengers Turn 2:
Captain America and Hawkeye both fail their Leadership rolls so I decide to clear.
X-Men Turn 2:
Cyclops passes his Leadership roll and takes a token off of Nightcrawler. Nightcrawler attempts to Hypersonic Speed attack Cap but misses by 1. He ends back on the edge of the elevated terrain and clears the rest of his team.
Avengers Turn 3:
Spider-Man moves adjacent to Rogue and Wolverine with Leap/Climb in an attempt to tie up both bruisers. Vision picks up Hawkeye and Phases to the other side of the Quinjet onto level 1 ground setting Hawkeye down close enough to Running Shot up to the elevated next turn. Mockingbird positions herself at the bottom of the stairs adjacent to Wolverine and Cap moves next to her. Scarlet Witch moves to be able to get Line of Fire on Wolverine and Perplexes up Mockingbird's defense. Lastly, Hulk moves adjacent to Emma, Beast and Cyclops using Leap/Climb.
X-Men Turn 3:
Beast uses Outwit to turn off Hulk's Impervious and Cyclops swings into the jade giant, hitting for 4 straight through. Emma successfully breaks away with a Running Shot but narrowly misses the Hulk with her Psychic Blast. Beast breaks away from the Hulk, using his Leap/Climb to move adjacent to Captain America. Wolverine copies Spider-Man's attack value and takes a swing, hitting Spidey's defense but web-head makes his Super-Senses roll (close but no cigar, Canucklehead!). Rogue saps Spider-Man's Super-Senses, dealing him 1 click of damage and takes a swing, missing by a long shot.
Avengers Turn 4:
Cap finally passes his Leadership roll at a critical moment and pulls a token off of Mockingbird. Scarlet Witch Perplexes Mockingbird's damage to 3 and she takes a swing on Wolverine, hitting with Exploit Weakness straight through his Invulnerability. Hawkeye uses his Running Shot to get onto the Elevated terrain and take a shot at Cyclops, hitting him for 3 clicks. Hulk breaks away from Cyclops in an attempt to charge and Ground Clobber both him and Emma but misses, only managing to make some hindering terrain for him to stand in.
X-Men Turn 4:
Wolverine heals 1 from Traumatic Healing. Nightcrawler decides to bring Wanda into the fight and Hypersonic Speed attacks Scarlet Witch, hitting for 2 and dragging her adjacent to Wolverine and Emma but taking 1 from Mystics in the process. All of the other X-Men clear.
Avengers Turn 5:
Vision Double Power-Actions to use Through the Wall, Phasing through the Quinjet and Elevated terrain and charges Cyclops. Vision connects and Cyke takes 3 more. I Perplex Mockingbird's damage up again with Scarlet Witch (who can still see her) and Willpower-push to swing again with Exploit Weakness into Wolverine, hitting for 3 past his Toughness, knocking him onto his Regeneration click. Spidey attempts to finish him off but misses. Hawkeye Willpower-pushes to Running Shot again in to Cyclops, finishing him off. Scarlet Witch attempts a final swing on Wolverine but also misses.
X-Men Turn 5:
Rogue absorbs Spider-Man's Super-Senses again, dealing another 1 click to the wall-crawler. Wolverine heals 1 from Traumatic healing and flurries into Mockingbird, hitting her once for 2 damage. Beast takes a swing on Cap, hitting him for 3. Emma, offended at Wanda's fashion sense, knocks her block off and takes her out of the fight (taking 1 in the process from Mystics). Finally, Nighcrawler pushes himself to KO Spider-Man.
We called it at this point as our lunch break was over. The X-Men came out on top, but only just! My co-worker really enjoyed the game and likes how everything felt very comic book-y, especially our banter back and forth when Wolverine was fighting Spider-Man by the nose of the Quinjet. He said a few times that "if you use your imagination, it plays out a lot like a comic fight". He's really exicted to get more games in and has expressed interest in coming to one of our local events, which I offered to build him a team for!
Anyways, I hope you guys have enjoyed the battle report. If there are any questions or feedback, please feel free to leave it
