Holy cow I go off on a vacation and when I come back its Mayhem.
I been reading all the posts over the last two days and I am shocked.
First off I want to thank Howard Brock and friends for all their hard work, they have made HCO better and helped stave off frustration with all the bugs and issues HCO had. The online league elevated the game to make it one of my favorite online games.
The one per household rule affected me and my son a lot but we worked around it. I can understand why the rule is there, however it is flawed. I think the rule was there to protect people but could have easily been fixed by charging an extra fee or something for additonal household accounts.
I have been playing Heroclix since it started. I have tried on numerous occasions to get my 3 sons to play. My son Zac is the oldest so with the online version I felt this was the perfect time to get him going. I bought him another account and purchased all his figures and transferred them to his account. We then played side by side in the first league, I admit I helped him win with advice which caused him to make the playoffs. Upon realizing that this help actually knocked out another player I felt guilty and refused to help him in the first playoff round. I think he was slaughtered by SavageHulk and he was very upset, so be it losing is part of the game. This play was purely for a bonding experience and not for any kind of gain on our part.
In the 2nd league he lost as many games as he won. I think I went 16-2 or something. Halfway through Howard contacts me and we had a 2 hour long conversation about how my son's account was conflicting with their rules. I had already some guilty feelings about league 1 so I talked to my son and he withdrew.
Now to defend Icarus a bit. I can see why they think Zac is not real. We tried playing together on separate computers but my laptop sucks and I was bugging out and crashing all the time. Sometimes I would lose games over it or get kicked out of sealed matches. As a result we would share one computer and log one guy on while one guy signed off, basically using one computer. Sometimes Zac would post on my HCrealms account forgetting to log off mine and me the same for him.
Do I think this rule is fair? no way it’s dumb, if I wanted to stack my wins I could have had any number of buddies create accounts for 2 bucks, I lend them some figs and play me a game for 16 wins. A lot of money yes, but I am 45 years old with a good job, I have no vices except gaming and would spend some money just to have fun versus bar hopping so many years ago.
The rule should be lifted and if they are worried, charge a user fee for extra accounts in a household for the league?
The happy ending to this is my son got back into WoW and now girls, so HCO can't compete, I doubt he will play this game for a long time.
I feel for Howard and he should be able to play with this son. I also understand the rule even though it is dumb. If Icarus had some common sense things wouldn't be playing out this way and the game would be thriving versus being in danger now.
I love this game and want it to succeed.
I will however be dropping from League 3 now with a 8-3 record in protest on customer service, treatment of Howard and ripping off the league.
I held off playing a week to see if Icarus would smarten up with the rules. From what I can see active players have really dropped off in numbers and even the open chat has died down. It's just not fun. I'm dropping out of the league as well.
