we play tournaments every saturday, and hope and pray that a certain guy doesn't come and join it. lets call him Mr. Broken. Mr. Broken has only lost once in all his heroclix record and that was in a national tournament. in the local tournaments, no matter how we tried, no matter what we do, no matter what we eat, no matter where we sleep, he never looses. this is frustrating because if he joins, it's like the gods have proclaimed that we can never get the LE. Mr. Broken has virtually every LE from all sets, and i need the help from all the people on the realms to fight Mr. Broken, and win, so that, for once, someone else MIGHT get an LE.
Mr. Broken's Team
warning: he has all these figures and used them, but i am unclear about the levels. (REV)
doc ock
hand ninja
con artist x3
avelanche
mystique
black cat
vulture
black panther
thug
paramedic
he almost never uses the same team twice. he changes the team on occasion but his strategy remains the same:
1. pulse wave con artists with avelanche
2. use perplex to make hand ninja's damage to 7 and attack to 15.
3. game over
look at it this way, he uses perplex to boost his power to the point which his hand ninja can defeat AMAZO, DESPERO, THE JUSTICE LEAGUE, SENTINELS, ALL THE AVENGERS etc. you cant take out Mr. Broken's con artists, coz he keeps them way at the back. he doesnt even use firelord! and the worst part is, if you take out his main hitter, another peice becomes the new hitter. EX. you got to knock out Hand ninja and doc ock, so what? hes got vulture, black cat, mystuque and thug left! OMG a thug with 7 damage and 15 attack! darn perplex generics. pls. lend a hand or none of us are ever going to see the glowing gold ring of an LE anytime soon.
He's using a Vet Doc Ock for Perplex. Probably a R-Mystique, along with 3 hoes makes 5 Perplexes. I'm not sure what he does to get attack to 15 and damage to 7. The Vet Nunchuk ninja has 8 attack and 2 damage at 8 range.
ro_gan- HHS? its been tried. pulse wave and TK wont make it to the starting position where he keeps his con artists.
I Am The Game- its 400 points, a team with over 20 figures he keeps even more perplex, i just wanted to give you guys a glimpse of the team. he also uses jean grey for TK and hydra for boosted ranged attack power.
HulksAcolyte- he keeps his con a. far from each other, close enough only to be victim of avelanches pulse wave.
ill try out the TK + charge.
thanks for the replies so far!
i still need help though, if you can help out, pls. do so, it is much appreciated.
haha yeah poring... why don't you go spag western and hire some guns to go down to your venue and school this dude? man it would be a great showdown...
if you were close i'd take the challenge and try to school this dude for you.
retired player... retired collector... just waiting for heroclix to go out of bussiness so I can get the plastic dirt cheap!!
last week he used this team:
dominic petros
R mystique
3xR artist
V mandarin
V Vulture
e black cat
gerorge tarlenton(or somethin)
2 medics,V quicksilver.
somethin else i forgot
1.PW cons
2. position perplexers
3. perplex mandain damage to 6 attack to 12.
4.attack
5.pass on mandarin but use vulture and perplex attack to 10 and damage to 4.
if someone gets near the medics, perplex attack of quicky to 10 and damage to 5.
6.fflllurrrrryyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7.goodbye...
Getting figs in to knock out his Perplexers appears to be the key. A rookie Toad, TKed into Charging distance by, perhaps, a Mandroid, could take a Con Artist off her Perplex. For 39 pts a vet Toad could easily be worth using, with his two clicks of 10 Speed Charge, not to mention his Brotherhood built-in free movement.
Mandarin's a massive pain - so many offensive threats and Outwit, too - but a TK-launched Charger like a vet Rogue or vet Doc Samson can do serious damage to him. Remember that those Super Strength characters can be TKed while holding an object, so they have the potential to hit for substantial damage. With Mandarin that's the best way to go, because you won't want to have to compete with his huge Defense Value (due to ES/D) attacking him from Range. Even though she lacks the Super Strength the 88 pt vet Rogue would likely be the better choice given that she has the two clicks of Charge, good stats, the flight to allow her freer movement, and multiple clicks of Steal Energy to allow her to boost herself back up. Those 3 clicks of damage she can inflinct on her first three clicks will put most figs well off their game. It'll even kick Mandarin off his Outwit clicks. If you can wrangle an Outwitter into position (go on the cheap with a rookie Black Panther, setting him up on a object well out on the battlefield) you can even turn off Mandy's RCE at that stage, and so limit his ability to harm Rogue; after 3 clicks of damage he has a base Damage of 2, and on her first click she has Invulnerability.
If you have the Mandroids, consider using them, though a rookie Jean Grey will give you more clicks of TK. If she's there to work as a launch system, push her. You'll want to do damage up front. If you can spare the points for a medic, fine, but if she can launch a good attack in two consecutive moves she'll have done a great deal for your cause.
Let's see...
r Jean Grey 31 pts (Multiple clicks of TK)
r Black Panther 27 pts (Avengers free move, Stealth and Outwit, albeit 1 click)
v Rogue 88 pts (Flight, Charge, 2 clicks of 10 Speed, multiple clicks of Steal Energy to help make her self-healing)
That's only 146 pts, so you have over half your points remaining to build with.
v Toad 37 pts (10 Speed, Charge, Brotherhood free move)
r Mandroid Armor 28 pts (a second TK "launcher")
That's 211, leaving 89 pts for more attack (a Hand Ninja or two might work) and/or support (a medic?) and/or a tie-up/blocking piece.
So long as the TKers can land one of those Chargers within 5 spaces of their target, they can strike, so you'll have a 15-space reach out onto the board. Be mindful of picking the best stopping place for each piece; after they've made their Charge attack they're going to be vulnerable, so you want to reduce that as much as possible by using terrain and perhaps even the fig you've attacked as LOS blocking terrain. Keep that in mind when deciding which clix to launch where. The Toad's going to do less damage than Rogue (2, vs her 3) and as he's grounded he's going to be limited by terrain when his next turn comes up and he has to pick a next target or a path of escape.
For a middle-to-late game move you might even have an attacker - a Hand Ninja, say, stealthed out on some hindering terrain - in the middle of the board, and have Jean TK the Mandroid out beside him. The Mandroid could then TK the Ninja next to the most threatening piece your opponent still has to help take him down a little. That will take 3 actions right there, so make sure the end result's worth it; it's also an example of why you'll likely want... (next paragraph.)
An inexpensive Leadership piece ( 24 pt Kingpin?) might come in handy to allow you to make a double TK launch & attack move. A single, rookie Con Artist to stay in the background could help provide an attack boost to those figures being launched; if you have a medic the Con Artist can even help assure a successful healing roll. Pushing her into a useful state will also give you something to do with part of those first two moves. Getting the Panther out onto hindering is something else to do early on. An 18 pt Quicksilver is also a great harassing/tie-up/ distracting piece. A 12 speed and built-in free Brotherhood move can be worthwhile.
Anyway, those are just some off-hand suggestions. There are seasoned strategists on the board who'll likely have something more substantial to offer.
Always remember that Perplex requires LOS to work. If you can position a barrier or another figure between the Con Artists and their target, there goes his biggest advantage. There's a ton of cheap barrier pieces, and this the situation that pieces like R Doc Ock were made for. Use his Leap Climb to get right in the Con Artists face and block LOS, then use Willpower and EE to start demolishing them.
Alternately, if you can't beat him with strategy, use your own hooker bomb, paired up with more mobile pieces to outmaneuver him. 4 or 5 con Artists teamed up with Torch, Blastaar and/or Deathbird (yes, I know she loses RCE if you Perplex her, but she can't use RCE with Running Shot anyway) will allow you to dish out huge damage just like Mr. Broken, but with the added flexibility of moving around corners, off of rooftops or out of soaring to do it. 4 or 5 Con Artists and E or V Thor will take most figures out of the game in one shot. 200 or 300 point Sentinel can make 2 running shots in a single round (as long as he has Running Shot, at least). Throw some perplex his way and dominate the field.
