on another note my Rangers losing Colby Lewis for the year hurts a bit. I would imagine they will be pushing hard now to get Cole Hamels or Cliff Lee from the Philies. They could get Lee cheaper probably because of the year he is having but as it is we really need Hamels to anchor the staff as a true Ace.
From the perspective of a longtime baseball fan in NY who roots for the Red Sox in the AL and the Mets in the NL...
Some of my favorite baseball memories involve the Mariners, after they'd traded for Jay Buhner from the Yankees (much to the exasperation of Mr. Costanza).
I remember visiting my parents, who had moved to Pennsylvania, and staying up with my late father (an old Brooklyn Dodgers fan who liked to say that "rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for U.S. Steel") to watch TV and cheer as the home-team Mariners would beat the Bronx Bombers.
More than that, I'll always be grateful for how the Mariners gave me some great post-season memories, coming back to beat the Yankees in the 1995 playoffs. That last game especially --- the thrilling way that Junior Griffey scored from first on Edgar Martinez's hit to end the series. Wow....for that alone, I'll always wish the Mariners well.
Well, except when they play the Sox.
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
Meanwhile, I can't help thinking that the Marlins remind me of that kid who runs up to the buffet line and heaps all the meatballs onto his plate after he's already piled it high with all the roast beef, then realizes he's not gonna eat half of what he's taken, so he returns to put it back...one meatball at a time...
