I got the new gravity feed joker from the batman set yesterday and want to build a batman enemy team with him and harley. I want to make sure i understand his trait right:

HARLEY'S MY GIRL: If a friendly Harley Quinn took damage from an attack since your last turn, you may give The Joker a free action. If you do, place The Joker adjacent to a character that caused Harley Quinn to take damage and target that character with a close combat attack. Harley Quinn is dealt one unavoidable damage. If Harley was KO'ed during your opponent's last turn, The Joker's attack value becomes 12 until the end of your turn.

my question is in my understanding of mastermind's line: Mastermind is not an attack.
Does this mean I can't mastermind on to Harley to trigger his trait??
i believe this to be correct but contradicts the intention of the ability

To me this is the intention. "only Joker can abuse Harley". If anyone else does, he gets jealous.
This is how I interpreted it too.
Run two GF Jokers and a bunch of Harleys, and just send in the Harleys to get beat up...the Jokers can come in to deal up to 12 penetrating damage that turn. With 11 or 12 attack and their own Probs, the Jokers likely won't miss. Gross!

Not Really. The damage wouldn't be penetrating. He can't use exploit weakness with the "Harley's my Girl" power. He's only granted a close combat attack and he would need to have been granted a close combat ACTION to trigger Exploit Weakness.

Well, 6 regular and 6 penetrating is still a deal. Positioning is key. Plus, options if more than one character hits a Harley.
