WizKids already has licencing rights from DC and Marvel to produce and manufacture their superhero figurines. We all know about the custom superhero dice that were made until dice company Chessex was ordered to stop because of intellectual property/copyright issues.
If WizKids already has permission to make figurines and use images from DC and Marvel, why not make dice also? I'm sure it would be a simple contract considering there are already legal documents in place.
Plus, think of the money WizKids would make from this....
People like me who don't even play HeroClix would buy these dice for roleplaying games or board games or just to collect and drool over.
Here's a personal wishlist of dice I would buy:
Feel free to add your own ideas
All 9 coloured lantern corps dice in a set, where a red die has the red lantern symbol in white, an orange die has the orange lantern symbol in white, etc
(a separate set that only includes a pair of Green Lantern dice would sell even better)
A set of 4 dice, 2x black dice with white batman symbols and 2x white dice with black batman symbols. (yellow symbols on black dice would be cool too)
A set of Avengers dice: maybe 6 dice, one each of Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. (This is to correspond to the Avengers movie moreso than the actual members from the comics)
These could be white with a coloured symbol to relate to the characters, like a hammer for Thor and Captain America's shield etc.
Spiderman dice... red dice with a blue spiderman face and blue dice with a red spiderman face
Venom dice... black dice with a white Venom face.. massive gross tongue and razor sharp teeth included.
Superman dice... similiar to the Spiderman dice, they'd be blue with a red Superman symbol and red with a blue Superman symbol. I've also seen around online somewhere some that have yellow within the symbol which is cool too.
Captain America dice: a set of 4 white dice, 2 with Captain America's shield and 2 with red and blue stars as pips. Very American so I imagine these would sell well.
Xmen dice... I'm so in love with Wolverine, I think any dice that had him on it would be awesome. Also Magneto because he is awesome.
pink dice for girls like me yay! Probably wouldn't sell as many units but there are girls out there who want cute pink custom dice! I'd love black dice with a pink Batgirl symbol and vice versa.
Wow I just thought of how cute Powerpuff Girls dice would be... hmm...I can dream right

Reason: for visual effect :)
You are new here. There was a member who as far as I know tried to figure out what it would cost to get a license and release dice in a blind booster scenario. It was too expensive.
I also need to point out that licenses are very specific and allow a specific type of product produced with the DC and Marvel characters.

Indeed. For example, WK has the rights to make HeroClix of characters from both companies. If they started selling a set of Hulk or Wonder Woman pens, they would get a C & D letter pretty much pronto.

I'm sure you're right about both things. That doesn't stop me wanting custom dice though hehe
'Too expensive' is just an opinion (imo ). People (and companies) always have their price. For example, if I was the owner of WizKids I would have negotiated a licence to make superhero dice a long time ago. I believe the gaming community would snap them up and there could be a lot of money made.
The dice wouldn't only appeal to people who buy HeroClix. People who like to collect dice would want them, people who collect superhero merchandise would buy them, and people who love gaming would want them too.
And do you mean it was too expensive for an individual or for a large company like WidKids? I can totally understand that it would be too expensive for an individual. But as I said before, big companies always have their price if they think it's worth it. It really depends on what the company is willing to spend on contracts/licences so they can produce particular merchandise.
WizKids obviously doesn't think it's worth the cost. Which is fair enough. (though I disagree)
It's just a shame because there are hundreds of different types of merchandise that companies are producing with Marvel and DC characters on them, like tshirts, hats, bags, mouse pads, mugs, etc etc, but no dice? doh
It also annoys me that Chessex, a company that produces excellent quality dice, is not allowed to make dice with copyright images on them, yet in other countries of the world there are companies making illegal clothes and other merchandise with all sorts of copyright images/logos etc.
I bought a tshirt online with Thor, Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America on it, and realised as soon as I felt it that it was a cheap fake shirt. Very unfair that they are getting away with that.
I understand why companies protect their creations so diligently, I just wish I could persuade them to come to an agreement so we could have cool dice.
