I have been waiting for Black Tom to appear in Heroclix for a long time, and he does not disappoint at all. Great dial, and a fairly accurate representation of pre-secondary-mutation (why is he not an E?) Black Tom. Great sculpt too. I approve!
Perhaps one of the best utility pieces in the game. With a second barrier piece with which to take turns on barrier duty, Black Tom was crucial in my heavy-hitter lacking 300pt mutant team's victory over M&M Apocalypse.
He's mostly awesome for that top click with its stealth and outwit but the 8 range is a big bonus too (I was kinda just expecting 6). His abundance of EE cries out for armor piercing but he can work out well enough without it also.
This figure is just beautiful in its simplicity; yet it can be played for finesse as well. He can be taken down with relative ease if somebody's going to HSS or charge him, but at only 55 points, if he goes down early it's a shame but nothing game breaking either; even in 300 points. As effective as he is, he is NOT your team's focal point no matter how you look at it, though with how much nasty stuff he can do, depending on how you play him, he CAN transcend the mere utility figure label and become a major nuisance as well. Great overall piece for fun games and even for extreme competitive play. He arrived in clix long overdue, but he was well worth the wait.
Nice sculpt, too; the minimal woodsy detail adds nice flavor.

There was a time when Black Panther R was the accepted way to get cheap, reliable Outwit. In those days, a figure only served one role on a team. Today, we have Black Tom. And while he's double the price, he's also providing Barrier to the team. See, today's utility piece needs to be more than Outwit, and Tom is as bare-bones as possible while still providing that desirable dual-purpose. On a team that already sported such Barrier-friendly characters as Pyro and Avalanche, we hardly needed Black Tom to provide it. But we sure won't complain if he does!
The opening Outwit might be a bit much for who he is, but it certainly sells the piece as a serious player on the board. I'm also a big fan of figures that segue from Stealth into Force Blast, since you can almost bet he's going to be based when he finally gets hit. Decent numbers, but great range, help him be more than just a good Barrier piece.

Dial : front-loaded. Top click is very good, but the loss of both Outwit and Stealth after that isn't too good. I don't see Force Blast as very helpful. 8 range Barrier is always cool, though.
Sculpt : I like.
Playability : For the cost, and given the first click, he's definitely worth playing. You want to stay on it as long as possible, and then raise Barriers and maybe take a few shots here and there thanks to the 8 range.
