Hey everybody!
So, I was a fan of comics before I got into clix, and that's one of the reasons I love the game. Building comic accurate teams, gauging dials against the characters, ect.
I was hoping that, in this thread, we could get some suggestions about what comics (specific runs hopefully) to read to get the best stories about some of the new themes and figures.
From what I can tell, the major sub-themes are
Spider-man Family
Sinister Syndicate
Midnight Sons
Monsters/Horror
The fact is, there are hundreds and hundred of spidey comics out there; so what are the best ones to read for this set? What's a sinister syndicate run worth reading? Etc.

Well, the best Sinister Six story can be found in Amazing Spider-Man annual #1. It's full of great one pagers by Steve Ditko.
As far as Monster Comics, I'd suggest Steve Gerber's run on Man-Thing. So, pretty much any Man-Thing comic from the 1970s.
Great comics, and you get the first appearance of Howard the Duck!
The main Spider-man stories featured in the set are Dan Slott's run (#650 - 700) and Grim Hunt.
-Grim Hunt will give you Kraven's family, Madam Web, Spider-girl.
-The Slott run will give you pretty much all the other major Spidey characters in the set, including a Sinister Six story.
-The Chases are from a terrible story called Identity Crisis.
-Carrion and Kaine are from a lame story called The Clone Saga, but Kaine/Scarlet Spider gets a pretty cool solo comic out of the Slott run that is still going on today.
That's it as far a Spider-man guys go. Most of the other people in the set have a comic with their own name as the title. The Midnight Sons have a comic in the 90's that's filled with funny 90's haircuts.
I would suggest reading the Marvel Identity Crisis before you automatically assume that it is terrible.
But yes, the Slott run of ASM is amazing incarnate, and I'd also suggest reading the Clone Saga if you can find it (both of them) just so you can get the background of how it all works, and you can see if you actually hate it as much as everyone else does.
Spider-Island is the single greatest Spider-Man arc I have EVER read and reread it ALL the time.
However with goods comes the bads. One More Day/Brand New Day are universally panned as the worst Spider-Man stories ever (or at least in the past few decades). Read it if you will, but be warned, it has made many people swear off Spider-Man comics for life.

Couldn't agree more! At least when it comes to brand new day. horrible.
Back in Black then One more day was AMAZING (see what I did there ;p).
But then again is it because i belive J. Michael Strazcynki (or something, just gonna call him JMS for short) is probably the mest author in comics I've ever read.
But that Slott started writing Brand New Day is quit reading spider-man. was BY FAR the worst spider-man in a while, and wasn't thrilled when i followed ASM spider-man and the name DAN SLOTT was appearing everywhere with big letters.
But.. Happily suprised!

My favorite Sinister Six stories are both of the Erik Larsen ones. ASM: Return of the Sinister Six, and Spider-man: Revenge of the Sinister Six.
One of my other favorite arcs, though not seen in this set, is the Alien Costume Saga. There is, however, the original Hobgoblin in the set, and anything from the old Hobgoblin stories are awesome. Hobgoblin was a great Spidey villain in his hey-day, as he could go toe to toe with the webslinger and beat him from time to time. The Rose, Kingpin, Hobgoblin, etc were all in top form.

He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"

I liked the Larsen ones a lot when they came out. I have good memories of reading comics of that ilk during the summers of the early 1990s.
Also, Kinglsey Hobgoblin is one of the best Spider-Foes, easily.
