Alright, If nightmare is on his last click and a character with three damage pushes and successfully hits him. Nightmare would take net 1, but the character pushed so he heals back up one. Is he KO'd or is he still in the game?
He would be KO'd. The KO occurs as part of the attack, but pushing damage doesn't occur until the action resolves.

I'm a little unsure about this, but do you have to announce his trait to your opponent before they decide who goes first? Because if not, and people like me overlook my opponents traits/sp during the first turn, that could be a nasty surprise...
I would say, yes, yes it does. I love this piece. Will admit the sculpt is a bit...derp.
However for the price goodness this piece will shred other pieces and even if he loses that crazy 12-14 attack up front that mid dial will shred an opponent so definitely wont be alpha striking this piece for fear of a PW.
Much love to this piece.:o

No, but you do have to tell them or show them if they ask, just like any other power/ability.

Anyone recomend a good strategy with this guy? Since you're most likely to go first, which maps work best with him? Which figures are good support in case you use him full dial and which go great if you play him for 110pts?

I find playing him on maps with little terrain will help his lack of flight ability.
Hindering will slow him down and allow his opponents an opportunity to use stealth. I use ALOT of Incapacitate to help support nightmare. The limited edition IG 'Thre Collector' is PERFECT for nightmare. The collecter can incap two opponents giving them two action tokens a piece. Effectively allowing Nightmare to attack with a 15 Av penetrating. Literally allowing him to NEVER miss a single attack. Since collector has power cosmic he can incap yet again the very next turn. Nightmare also has power cosmic and would of course attack yet again......I think the obvious and popular strategy is to put mole man on the team for his mind control special. Now nightmare is attacking a single figure with a 14av for 8 penetrating damage. Mole man gives him a chance for Multiattack.....it is truly a mean and viciously effective tactic that remains quite popular in tournament environments. You could also use that free action to position nightmare for his runningshot.
If you want to play him at his lower point value (110 I think it is) and you are playing a smaller point value team.....pair him up with the ever so unpopular Mephisto. Double incap from 8 squares away, mystics and another source of outwit. That's 255 points. If you can, try adding Moleman to this team as well. Although I believe that's 2 points over 300.
A game coming up this weekend has inspired me to play the following team.
Its a 'fun' team for sure but I think if I put "not so special" on diablo, his triple incap will help nightmare. Also shuma can incapacitate opponents as a free action.

We're having a 800pts tournament this weekend(I complained at first, but then thought it might be fun), and I'm thinking about using Nightmare(217), GSXPhoenix(297), Professor X(123), General Thunderbolt Ross(55 Aereal attack), Cypher and I got around 85pts left to fill with something. I was thinking using this Hellicarier Map which is full of blocking terrain+walls so that the enemy has a hard time reaching Professor X. The point of Nightmare is to assure I get the map, but I'm not sure he'll work that fine with so many walls, maybe if I carry him with Phoenix... Or, if I just want the trait, I'd play him for 110pts.

Yes blocking/walls will help you're team. I guess if the only reason you are using nightmare is to get map advantage then play him at 110. He's still very good and cheap for what he can do! Able to get a 13 attack, supersenses and probability control for a little over 100 points is worth it. It also helps if he is koed, you wont feel so bad for spending 217 points on him. Nice team! I can see what you're going for and it looks scary to go up against. I've see general ross's special change games at times.
What happens if both you and your opponent has nightmare? Who goes first then? Would it be like Constantine, both get -1?
No, it says, "If an opponent wins the roll to determine the first player and does not choose Nightmare's controller to be the first player, characters on that opponent's force modify their attack value by -1 as long as Nightmare is on the map."
The penalty only ever affects the player that wins the roll at the beginning of the match.

Well I suppose I have 'unique' rules all wrong then? It was my understanding that only one unique figure of that sort can be used on the field? If a player is using nightmare, he can be the only nightmare fielded?
I guess this is incorrect? Meaning we can field two Thanos figures and they cancel each others healing abilities out? Geesh....

You do have it all wrong. Each PLAYER may only include one of each unique character. There's nothing that prevents both players from having one.
Just out of curiosity, by your method, what would happen if multiple players showed up to an event with the same unique character? Only one gets to use it, and the other one is shafted on points? Neither gets to use it? They both get dq'ed for having illegal teams cause the other guy has it?

My venue really doesn't see a lot of unique characters. Which is a good reason for my lack of knowledge on them. But the judge assumed that the player who brought a unique the same as the other would roll a d6. Highest roller keeps their character and the other player must find another figure of equal or less points to play. We realized that this would give that player an advantage over the strategy of chosen figures...but since this rarely happened we never thought to much about it. Thanks for clearing that up...unique characters aren't as "unique" as I thought them to be...
