Not able to use extra effects granted by powers/items if you already have the power?
So, I've seen all the talk about not being able to user extra effect or mixing effects if you have powers or items that grant the same power (Poison Ivy and Gas Pellets/Smoke Grenades as an example

(Improved) I Move Through the Green: Improved Movement: Ignores Hindering Terrain
(Speed) I Like Powerful Men: Poison Ivy can use Mind Control and Stealth. When she uses Mind Control, modify her attack value by +1 and she does not take unavoidable damage from Mind Control.
(Attack) Poisonous Vines: Poison Ivy can use Poison and Smoke Cloud; immediately after she uses Smoke Cloud, choose one of the hindering terrain markers placed by the power and deal 1 damage to each character occupying or adjacent to it.
So, if I have Poison ivy, and her Poisonous Vines power is Outwitted, can I then use the effects of the Gas Pellets/Smoke Grenade?
Had someone telling me that when they Outwit Smoke Cloud, that means I can't use any versions of it.
Actually this was already discussed in another thread I posted:
You can't use the smoke cloud from the Relic side BUT You do get the free movement AFTER POison Ivy uses her own. This however does not apply to the resource side.
Another fun effect is pairing the relic side with Black bat

Incorrect. If you had a Speed Special Power that says "Bill can use Super Strength", and it had Super Strength in the attack slot, then the opponent would need to Outwit BOTH to stop Bill from using Super Strength.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.

Could you post a link please, because this seems incorrect.
Seriously doubting this since regular smoke cloud can't let you move and you can't mix and match powers to the best of my knowledge.
If the power said something like "Any tim a fig uses smoke cloud..." then it might work but as I think it stands currently she can't mix.
He could be right...The resource pellets grant a special smoke cloud so they do nothing at all if you can already use smoke cloud. The relic version says
"Character can use Smoke Cloud. When it does, after actions resolve it can be given a move action as a free action with a speed value of 4."
So the smoke cloud part is ignored but is the second sentence? The damage in the resource is bundled with that use of smoke cloud where this seems like it could be more of a trigger rather than one whole effect. Hmm.
I was under the impression that you can only outwit powers possessed by a character, not powers they can use. Thus, the relic's smoke cloud could not, normally, be outwitted, nor could Poison Ivy's (in this example).

You are correct. Smoke pellets would not be able to be outwitted since it is "used" not "possessed". However, with Poison Ivy, she possesses a white power "Poisonous Vines" which grants use of Smoke Cloud, and THAT can be outwitted.

Yeah but normalview said that that qas different because it's all contained withing a power action to use Smoke Cloud. She can't be given the power action for THAT specific jse of smoke cloud as she already can use it and thatbwould result in a redundancy if poisonius cines are showing

Right, so your link confirms what I said. Since the relic's effect (not the resource) is a trigger it will work with any smoke cloud, including her special one. The resource version's damage component never comes into play because it is a part of using that special smoke cloud, where the relic's effect doesn't care what smoke cloud is being used.
