Well, I just picked up the last three issues of this series because I like the was Ramos draws Doc Ock, In reading this, I have realized that this (much like the Ultimate Universe) is not within Marvel continuity.

What is the purpose behind this series? What does it represent?

I like the art, except when he does Spider-man-because of the black eyes...

And the writing seems solid, but the stuff I know (knew) of Spidey, seems slightly different in this series.

Some things are different like peter is not married to MJ and Docock is one of the most kickassenest bad guys ever! Flash is braindead but is getting better. I love the art but some people say it is too cartoony. I have the whole series so far. But, yes it is very much like ultimate spidey.

Why do you say it is not in continuity and where did you get the idea that mj and he are not married?

I hate this series. Peter/Spider-Man's dialouge is completely out of character. The whole stupid Venom miniseries resolved nothing. "Oh the symbiote likes Adrenaline, Eddie has cancer, the symbiote left him, but it went back to him." WOW! Not to mention they turned Eddie Brock into an idiot.

And Doc Ock... Lame new design. And his introduction in the first issue was so meh. "Muahaah Spider-Man, you must admit that I am so brilliant. You always beat me, so I made myself 10 times stronger then I used to be. Muahahah, aren't I brilliant?"

I personally love Ramos art. He is one of my favorite artists but Jenkins writes carp.

I hate the story and its seriously awful.

The only "spectacular" thing about this series is the art.

I'm on again and off again about Ramos' art. I can appreciate it. In fact I loved it in his earlier Green Goblin arc. I like it when it is different, but not ridiculous. Often times he just takes it too far for me and it detracts from the story. For example in many scenes his people look like apes (the Palestinian leader for example) and what was the deal with Spidey's neck at the end of the last issue. It looked like his head was a pineapple stuck on top of a straw.

They are just getting back with each other. There has not been a single issue that has dealt with the details of what MJ has done with any of her stuff as far as what did she do with her apartment in LA.

She is known as Mary Jane Watson - Parker so being called Ms. Watson is not entirely strange. Especially when you think of the fact that many in the public may not realize she is back with her husband who she was sperated from.

Barely see each other? How do you determine this from a single story arc?

Aunt May does know and has know Pete's secret Id for almost 3 years.

Well Spidey's Id was revealed to Aunt May in Amazing. 2-3 years ago. Around 9-11

Mary Jane and Peter married about 16 years ago seperated about 5 years ago reunited in the last year. It has been slowly done and not heavily detailed in what it means. The apartment as shown in the Former Peter Parker Spectatcular title looks very different then the apartments drawn in Amazing and Spectacular.

Flash's situation has primarily been a Spectacular storyline and that's not uncommon.

The individual titles have had their own threads for sometime.

Example:

Amazing was the main book and focused on primary villians and longer story arcs where Spectacular had focused on goofier old throw away villians like kangaroo, spot, the gibbon and others while dealing with one shot stories or very small arcs with some carryovers.

Currently Amazing is written in a way that deals primarily with new and original villians. while Spectacular deals with classic foes.

MJ is a model and as such her absense could mean she's working on location outside of NYC. Beyond that Venom has not been a major villian in some time. He was overdone too much in the ninities and was left dormant and then brought back again in both Spectacular and his own Venom series.

To be frank it has always been fairly clear that the host of the suit would eventually be sucked dry and left either weak , dead or dying. So Brock's current state should not be a surprise to many.

Venom is not a bad villian but he was just overdone for too long and as such I've lost interest in the character.

I could care less if Carnage is never mentioned again.
