Action Comics 19
Andy Diggle is hit or miss and Daniel's art reminds me of the 90's. Grant Morrison is a hard act to follow and Diggle leaving the title before finishing his run has the poor book blemished already. So, I'll try to put that all out of my head when I give it a gander. I hope this at least starts out pretty cool before Tony takes over scripting and drags it down to his level.
Detective Comics 19
I don't pay attention to the entries in Previews for the books I already pick up unless I'm thinking about dropping the title. So an 80 page, $7.99 giant is not what I was expecting. Perhaps luckily since Ultimate Comics X-Men 25 didn't come in for me, I had enough cash.
I've been only picking this book up since Layman took over. This was my introduction to his writing but I hear Chew is pretty clever. I've been liking the arc so far with this Emperor Penguin upstart heckling my man Burgess Meredith.
I especially liked this bit during the first issue of the run(#13 I believe) where we see Bruce Wayne donating money to the various hospitals and medical departments that take care of the medical requirements of Batman's victims after he beats them into submission. It was amazing.
Green Lantern 19
I'm not sure when I cancelled this book so I keep being frightened that I'll have to shell out another 2.99 on this book when I go pick up my stuff. I like the Hal and Sinestro characterizations. Everything else I've been finding dull and unoriginal. Plus this new Green Lantern is boring. To each their own.
I look forward to Lemire on this book so I'll have to find out when that starts so I can order it on time.
Deadpool 7
New Arc! This is 1 of 3 books that I've read already. I think I saw Mephisto on the cover of a Deadpool book when I was flipping through Previews looking for new stuff. So I imagine this is a precursor of sorts to whatever the next arc might be. Without getting too spoiler alert-y I can assure you that drunken wacky hijinks ensue. I give two severed thumb, thumb stumps up.
Age of Ultron 4 of (OVER 9,000!)
I read this book as well and I have no idea what to think of this series so far. I really do like the premise and there are a few points where the execution does go over well. In those glimpses Bendis succeeds in making this feel like the big thematic summer apocalypse movie he so desperately wants this to be. It's just that most of the time it comes off as flat and boring with explosions happening everywhere. Those movies tend to be like that anyway though so maybe he's on to something.
Hitch's drawing. When someone doesn't have a costume on I have no idea who they are. I'm not even sure what's happening half of the time. I really don't care for his art in this medium.
Also I'm not sure if this is a different universe. I think this is going to be avoiding a future or past or present or something from happening. Mostly so we can get an Avengers comic book starring robots. If only so we can live in a world where a Doombot can cry.
Thanos Rising 1 (of 5 maybe?)
I've been psyched for this book to come out. Maybe the skinny dweeb syndrome is a Marvel staple but eff it. I came here for Thanos and I'll stay for Jason Aaron. I am equally psyched for issue dos. I wish this %$^# was weekly.
This was the first book I read when I picked up this week's books today and I wasn't disappointed. I can see where the negativity comes from but there was bound to be some attached when tackling the supposedly definitive origin of a character like this.
Superior Spider-Man 7
I hear I'm going to hate Dan Slott more after issue 9. I think Dan Slott said that himself. I think I hate Dan Slott just for being Dan Slott.
...Dan Slott.
Anyway this is issue 7. I'm not sure I love Slott's Spider-Man. He doesn't tell the worst stories but I really do long for a new writer. This whole Doctor Octospidey felt like a ballsy move at first but now it just feels like a ticking clock. Freaky Friday that ran 2 hours too long aside, the story has been alright so far. If memory serves correct this is the cover they were advertising as the issue Octospidey is kicked out of the Avengers. Cool, I guess.
I see that there are fifty Superior titles coming out soon and that this summer will be Superior. I like Shocker and maybe Carnage will be okay but I'm not buying either of these two announced.
Indestructible Hulk 6
Hulk! Thor! Simonson! Mark Waid has been scripting good Hulk comics.
Ultimate Comics X-Men 25
I let my comics pile up for a bit and was looking to cancel some books. The Ultimate stuff was some of the first to go but when I got around to picking it up and reading it, I really liked Brian Wood's characterization of Ultimate Kitty Pryde. I'm holding firm on the cancellation of Ultimates even though the Infinity Gauntlets are a cool twist and I'll be sad when I wasn't there for Ultimate Thanos. But this book has been uncancelled and I'm in it to win it.
I believe this book is heading towards a showdown not between Mach 2 and Kitty but with Jean and Kitty so it's interesting to see how this will all play out. I like that they call their dung heap Utopia. Also this has me very excited for Brian Wood's X-Men in May.
Sometimes I replace myself with an animal painted green. Beast Boy; Teen Titans GO!
I belatedly picked up Phantom Stranger #7 and read it last night. This comic is seriously under-appreciated.
This comic featured a captivating discussion or two on faith, a star turn by Jack Ryder, appearances by Morgan Edge, Terrence Thirteen, and the new Challengers of the Unknown (Red Ryan rocking out to save the world!), and more on the New 52 version of ...

The Question.
I don't know what his deal is, why he can slug the Phantom Stranger, and why he is so jerky, but I am glad that the Renee Montoya experiment seems to finally be over.
Gene Ha makes everything look amazing.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
