Took some more recent back issues into local comic shop. Mostly various Avengers stuff and some DC52 stuff.
They offered me about $.50/book. Is this typical? I didn't know what to expect, but I thought it would be more than that.
That's more than I got when I took in some Blackest Night and Brightest Day books I got from a friend who got out of comics. I got $0.10 a book.
"Batman's voice was half the battle. It took me a while not to be rattled by it. And then I found out that he had to work at keeping Bruce's voice. Then I got rattled again." -Tim Drake
It's typical. Most books since the 1980's aren't valued highly due to high print runs, significance (or lack thereof), condition, etc.
Modern comics are further devalued as they offer them in trade formats and also digitally. On top of all that, you have to trade in these comics to retailers who have to re-sell them, usually for less than cover price since these are used books.
Getting $0.50 per issue was nice, though I'm unsure what was traded in. I usually get less for mine, and I don't get direct cash, usually store credit.
There are a lot of factors that devalue modern comic books. It's not unusual to see some books in the $0.50 bins a year out of print anymore.

That is awesome!
In my area comic shops don't even look at comic books unless they are before 1975.

You did alright. The vast majority of comics just aren't worth much.
I always tell people - don't buy comics as an investment, but because you want to read them. If you don't want to read them, don't buy them.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
My shop gave me roughly that rate a few years ago, and mostly since I was a longtime customers and had some fairly decent stuff (early issues of Astonishing X-Men, Ultimates) My shop is good about money-back guarantees on books they're trying to promote, like Saga, or some #1s that they run out of, like the new 52s. Otherwise, they're don't generally accepting boxes of stuff.

Most comic shops in this area pay 15 bucks for a short box, and 30 for a long box. If there are key issues, then that changes. So 50 cents an issue, although a big loss from 2.99, is pretty good.
