This isn't a rant thread just a quick question about the new 2013 PAC definition of HSS
Does HSS allow someone making an option 1 close combat attack during the movement still get to move away without a break away because of the ability of a character to move by characters during a move action or does the lack of auto breakaway kick in and force the roll?
They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." Robert Downey/Tony Stark
Breakaway is checked when a character starts moving. Hypersonic Speed lets a character move through squares adjacent to other characters while moving. The attack portion occurs during their movement, so they never actually stop moving in terms of game mechanics. So no, there is no need to break away after making the attack during Hypersonic Speed. However, if you start adjacent to an opposing character and want to attack and then move away, you would need to roll breakaway after declaring the HSS action, because you can't make the attack until you're moving.
Edit: Also bear in mind that with the new Plasticity rules, barring Improved Movement characters or another effect that lets you ignore characters while moving, HSS can't be used to successfully attack a character with Plasticity with a close combat attack, because the HSS figure would have to end their movement as soon as they become adjacent.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Break away still only occur at the start of movement and the hss attack occur during movement. So there is no need to break away from the attacked character.
What is new with the 2013 PAC is that if the HSS-character starts moving adjacent to a opposing character it needs to roll break away (unless it has other means to auto break away or ignore characters). And if it moves adjacent to an opposing character with platicity it has to stop(unless it ignores characters or plasticity) and can't make the attack.
Whew... HSS is better off than I thought it was.... I thought for a while there that breakaway would happen in the middle of the action. Thanks guys!

If the HSSer starts adjacent to the Plasticity guy and succeeds on the BA roll, he can.
Pretty sure Plasticity doesn't stop the free attack as an action for Charge and RS+Sharpshooter when coming into adjacency against a Plasticity figure, correct?
As opposed to HSS needing it mid-action, Charge & RS+Sharpshooter has it at the end of their movement.
I hope so...
