Ugh, I am having all osrts of technical issues. I couldn't move the tokens so I switched to IE instead of Chrome. Now when I go to post it asks me to type in words to pass a security check then doesn't the reply doesn't post.

I thought you had to use the object in the attack if you are holding an object at the time of that attack. So wouldn't he have lost the HO?

HSS allows a close or ranged combat attack during the move. Throwing the object requires a ranged combat action, so he wouldn't be able to throw it during HSS even if he wanted. Additionally, the rule book indicates that a character with an object "may" use it during a ranged combat action, so that's optional. You're right, though, that if I made a close combat attack I would have to use the object.
