I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Nice group of songs! A couple I had forgotten, a couple were new to me. Much thanks for the selections!
1- Neil Young- Neil Young always seems to either be a top pick or a bottom pick, pretty much all or nothing! He's always hinself, and usually original. In this case, I like the song a lot!
2- The Bee Gees- Still stands up after all these years. Back when the Bee Gees were a serious musical influence, before they were pop icons.
3- The Monkees- One of the better Monkee songs, less pop than some, much more depth. And I am a Monkees fan.
4- Missing Persons- I really like parts of this, especially the chorus, and especially her outfit. The way the song ends is pretty satifying also, and I don't mean that in a bad way. The change in tempo might have been effective if used throughout.
5- F.R. David- Nice song, worth listening to!
6- Low- I liked the sound but not really the song. I can see how it could set the mood as part of a soundtrack, but on its on, it doesn't fare so well. a little weak and repetitive.
7- Kate Miller-Heidke- No
Monkees - I do enjoy the Monkees. I'll concede part of it may be as much nostalgia as actually liking the music, though I do that too.
Bee Gees - Kind of sweet
Missing Persons - Takes me back to high school. So again, nostalgia maybe is lending a bit of weight to this one, but it is fun, in an 80s sort of way.
Kate Miller-Heidke - At first I thought it was kind of weird. By the time it was over, I was kind of getting into it.
F.R. David - Very poppy, but kinda fun.
Neil Young - Young has some good stuff, but this one didn't really do anything for me.
Low - Was that really six minutes long? Seemed at least twice that.
Neil Young – Was this song the beginning of the Grunge band era? Don’t know, but this is so raw and powerful that it hits ya right in the jaw and makes your spine straight all at once.
Low - Ahhhh man, I absolutely dig their whole lo-fi sound. This is very easily one of the best finds on here in a while for me.
Monkees - Just this week or last, I posted a bunch of Psychedelic songs from the 60s on the "What are you listening to now" thread. I love the Monkees and especially love their Psychedelic era songs. This is a great song and I have no idea where to rank it just yet. We’ll see.
Bee Gees – Such a nice song, and a great little slice of Brit Invasion era Bee Gees. Yes, they’re from Oz, but by most accounts are considered to be part of the first British Invasion.
Spring Session M – It’s great seeing Terry Bozzio wearing makeup and looking better than Dale. Great period piece from the early/mid 80s new wave era. Go New Wave!
Kate Miller-Heidke – nice little alternative song. Very much like Lene Lovich and Nina Hagen.
F.R. David – sounds like a nice pop song, but at the same time, it doesn’t sound like a very good one.

I'll have you know that, over the past two months, I have worked with both Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork. Both were incredibly gracious performers, but the vibe of the shows could not have been more different. Nesmith plays anything but Monkees tunes, while Tork completely embraces his time in the group. And I should say that in both cases, the audience came away extremely satisfied, having gotten exactly what they expected.
Yeah, I've heard Nesmith really resents what the Monkees represented. He wouldn't be performing anywhere though if it wasn't for that band. On a side-note, I once ran into Mickey Dolenz late one night in a bar in California. My friend, also a drummer, went up to say hi and tell him that he played with so and so who was with Dolenz at one time and MD just totally turned away from him and acted like a crass has-been who was just there to score with some 50+ year old groupies at closing time.

He might have gotten something else going without the Monkees gig. He is credited along with Gram Parsons with initiating the country rock movement.

This one's a hard one for me to rank as all the entries were pretty damn good this go around.
1. Neil Young - It's amazing how much talent this man has.
2. Missing Persons - This is close to being my favorite song from the 80s. To think the lead did time as a Penthouse pet back then too.
3. The Monkees - I never realized they had so many good songs besides the one you always hear.
4. Low - This is pretty cool.
5. Kate Miller Heidke - For some reason this reminded of early Sparks music.
6. The Bee Gees - I'll take this over the disco stuff.
7. F.R. David - I tend to look for pop music very rarely. Song's good though.

1. Missing Persons - Wow, all this time I had no idea that was Terry Bozzio on drums. As a drummer I should have known this.
2. Neil Young
3. the Monkees
4. Low
5. Bee Gees - I keep picturing the SNL sketch with JT and Jimmy Fallen
6. Kate Miller Heidke
7. FR David
1) Neil Young - 43 pts
2) The Monkees - 32 pts
3) Missing Persons - 31 pts (one first place vote for the tiebreaker)
4) The Bee Gees - 31 pts
5) Low - 24 pts
6) F.R. David - 19 pts
7) Kate Miller Heidke - 16 pts
I'll have another match up later tonight. Thanks for taking time to do these.
