So this was it. This was the final chapter in an agonizingly long story (made to feel longer by being part of *every* Lantern book) about Relic and his crusade against the "light bearers". Believing the "light bearers" to be using up a finite supply of energy (without which the universe will end), he attacked the various Lanterns in a quest to stop them while maintaining the survival of this universe.
So, how'd it end?

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.
First of all, I expected a twist. I expected Relic to be proven wrong and sent on his way. In particular, I expected him to find out that he was the one responsible for the destruction of his universe. But no. The story was straightforward. Relic was right. The various Lanterns *were* about to cause the destruction of the universe. And if Relic hadn't shown up, the universe would've ended. Lame. I understand some people might love the "energy supplies are limited" metaphor to the real world, but in this context, it just felt super lame.
Then, there's the revelation that Carol's in love with Kyle. Bleah. It's bad enough Kyle ruined Donna Troy and Jade. To be fair, I saw it coming, with all the time that Carol were spending with each other, but I was hoping I was wrong. Again, I was hoping for a twist, but there was none.
And the utterly pointless fight scene. A big deal was made of getting the Red Lanterns to join up. Only they didn't do anything useful. The Indigo Tribe was useful solely for their teleportation ability. In the end, it was all pointless except for Kyle pushing Relic into the source wall. Fine, but the rest of the battle scenes were pointless and redundant considering previous fights against Relic.
And then there was the happy ending of "Kyle sacrificed himself and will never be seen again", only to have this happy scene ruined with Kyle being spat out of the Source Wall. Bah. Just as everyone was holding a memorial for Kyle too.
And then, what about all we've lost? We lost Kyle but he came back. We lost the Green Lantern central power battery, but oh, that got rebuilt in like five seconds by the Indigo Tribe's creator. We lost Oa, but Mogo will substitute for it (does Mogo like having the power battery on him since its destruction last time blew up Oa?). Pretty much nothing important was changed or lost. Except the Blue Lanterns but nobody seems to care about them. Maybe they were forgotten?
And we lost all the "entities" of the lantern corps of every color except yellow. Because they had to "refill" the source with emotion energy or whatever. But how long will that last? We don't know. Are the Lanterns about to destroy the universe again? We don't know. Sigh.
Hmm well yeah that does sound lame and like you said for a big story no big " loss" in the loss column as lets face it

the Blue Lanterns outside of St Walker(does he still have a ring??) were filler and the Entities outside of Parallax (who I assume might restart his corps) Did absolutely nothing

Yeah, it was painfully bad. It was just one giant mass of "nothing interesting is happening," which is a really nice allegory for DC Comics in general at the moment.

I really don't like the Carol/Kyle thing. It's just really creepy. It's like getting into a relationship with your much older brother's ex, you know?
I don't agree that Kyle being a relationship ruined Donna or Jade, though. (I think that's more just poor writing in general that ruined them).

It's been pretty hard to follow-up the Johns run, or at least post-Blackest Night, which is why I dropped it after the last Johns issue.
I'd like to see a writer/artist ground him on earth for a while like the Dennis O'Neil/NEal Adams Green Lantern/ Green Arrow run. Let other books like Corps, Red Lanterns, and New Guardians explore the space mythos and ground the main book back on Earth.

I also jumped ship after Johns left. I like the idea of grounding them on Earth for a bit.
Oh, and since the Green Lantern corps are intergalactic police, maybe they could do police things? Like hunt criminals and uncover interplanetary drug rings. I'd like to read about that.

"Hal! Come quick!"
"What is it, Kyle?"
"Atrocitus is pushing a new designer drug in sector 5034! It's called KRAQ!"

Yeah this story line was just horrid. It had potential, I had some hopes. But they all fell flat.
Relic...boring a slight Galactus rip off. Both around before this universe was made. Survived the big bang and came back. Yes I know Marvel and DC have always been trying to up each other with their characters and if one has Batman we have to have Moon Knight...blah blah etc, etc.
Was excited to see the Blue lanterns get the blue stuffing kicked out of them. I mean BAM right out of the gate...hope...lost. Alright some serious stuff is going to happen now. The bio disposable waste is going to hit it. Then....nothing.
Green Lantern rings nearly out of power for how many issues? Then Hal decides wait the Red Lanterns are partially powered by magic. Maybe some Green Lantern Red Lantern hibrid corp to be created to kick Relics butt...nope nothing. Once again in the single digits of green lantern power left. All they do is get the Reds to join them. Big deal. The Reds would have gone any way just for the thrill and fun of the fight.
Ok I was cool with Relic being sucked into the Source Wall. No problems with that at all. But Kyle being able to come out of it in like the next page. Come on give me a few issues before he gets spat back out of the Source Wall. Give his return some drama. Really make it mean something. I was never a huge Kyle fan. But come on he is the White Lantern, make it like something huge that HE came back from the source wall.....instead just fizzled out like holding a sparkler on 4th of July while your neighbor is shooting off 1,000's of dollars worth of high tec explosive goodness.
All I can say is I hope the follow up stories are better. Or I might just have to drop my Lantern books. Granted I have not picked up Larfleeze...no interest. But I am hoping for something. Oh but wait I can not have Hope the Blue Lanterns are no more....for now.
And still I am waiting for a new Desaad figure.....where is the Desaad love?
I thought it was alright. But I was confused how in the final issue Kyle went from trying to help Relic and telling everyone else not to attack him to attacking him a page or so later for no reason.

Here's the short answer: Bad writing.
Here's the longer one: Really ####ing bad writing.
Any questions?
