let's create a new category of description for characters: Species! and while we're at it, let's add gender.
Most aliens characters that are members a notable species have it as a keyword. Throw in Human, Metahuman and Mutant, and you're halfway there.
Species and gender could be target-able characteristics of the unit, but would not count as a keyword when determining if they share any for game mechanics. It would add a lower tier of descriptors below "generic".
Overall keywords have been a total fail they havent added anything for the game outside of ATAs that for the most part have seen equal amounts of abuse.
It lets you run teams from the comics that don't have a team symbol, while getting some benefit. My go to example are the Runaways.

I agree with this. Its the reason I would like to see the old keywords back and more non-generic ones as possible. I don't miss the days of keeping a notebook with lists of figs who make up comic based teams.

That's usually reserved for time travelers who can be in any time they want.
Question. I don't play Bioshock Infinite; but is there time travel in there? Because bsi011 Booker and Liz has both Future and Past keywords.
But if a character is a time traveller, why not just make time-traveller a keyword instead of giving multiple keywords? For the versatility of the character to fit into a Past, or Future team... (makes sense, just curious).
Also, characters like Colossus, who are typically the muscle of the team seem like they should always have the Brute keyword. Just my thoughts.

I think you've answered your own question there. If "Time-Traveler" was a keyword, then you couldn't have a time traveler on a "past" theme team or a "future" theme team because they wouldn't have the keyword to do so. But this way, you can. So, the current way works and any other way wouldn't (unless Wizkids made special rules for one particular not-very-common keyword, which is a horrible idea).

Eh, brutes should be the rather uncivilized guys, the lowlife scum of the universe, the savage guys, not the artistic poetic types like Colossus, imho.
But there are many keywords that could be handled better. Colossus is the only character with the Armor keyword who has it for the reasons he does; everyone else either has high-tech armor or has medieval armor. So, he shouldn't have the Armor keyword. Likewise, the Joker is the only character with the Monster keyword who has it for being evil, so he shouldn't have it. And the difference between Warrior and Soldier for fantasy-army guys is a bit mystifying at times.
theme teams aside, both psychic and mutant would be considerably helpful when crafting special powers. how many times have we seen the phrase "possesses the x-men team ability or keyword or the brotherhood of mutants team ability or keyword?"
I keep thinking that as well. We have a lot of powers that specifically try to single out the Brotherhood or X-men, and the wording always comes across as very awkward. Mutant was a perfect catch all for that, and they got rid of it.
Now, I do see how it could be easily abused. We have so many mutants in Marvel comics, many of them don't even associate with each other. Madame Web was a mutant, and that would make it easy to put her on a team with Magneto and Big Bertha (.....idea for later). It allows some made up, but large fraction of the Marvel universe to hang out and be all themey.
That said, I guess it couldn't be much worse than Spiral, Ghost Rider, and Scarlet Witch all hanging out....
