NH is tiny and 28 for my venue is a good number, a number I expect to only grow in the future. And if a state/city/venue this small can successfully run a SQ, IMO, anyone can.
And you think his team is cheesy? Well...this proves people will complain regardless. You realize this was a competitive event right? What were you expecting?
I understand it is competitive and all that, I am just sick of seeing Brother Voodoo across the map from me. I am a firm believer in the highlander rule, which is why I don't agree with the Enchantress thing either. I have always loved to play comic accurate teams and this kind of DC/Marvel crossover for the purposes of Heroclix annoys me. As I said in my original post, I'm sure it is a great team, I just get sick of seeing the same ole, "Brother Voodoo" lameness all the time there is a constructed event.

The funny thing about that is that I have not really faced him that much. I would be very happy if he was the only cheese I faced. Also the highlander rule is a player made rule and has never even been mentioned in the rulebook. Furthermore I have never seen it in place at any sanctioned event. I do not think I would object if it were made into a rule though.
Playing comic accurate teams is fun. I do it sometimes as well. I am glad that isn't a rule though. You and I would be a minority of players that would want that to be a rule. I think it would certainly limit team building and most likely unbalance the game further.
personally Marvel/DC crossover teams are always fun, and capable of being accurate, so I don't understand why people don't approve of others mixing universes.
Also I have only played against brother voodoo once... I don't really think he is everywhere. I think the Shi'ar team base is everywhere.

Based on the 600pt rounds in Tulsa sure, I don't know about everywhere else though. Shi'ar at 300 isn't quite so beastly in my opinion since you would only get 1 action with them at 200 and Lilandra, and running them at 300 w/o her makes them fairly easy to out action.

I don't think you have quite seen the Shi'ar at its highest potential then. You play him at 300 and pop off Warstar, Oracle, and another figure. Its a pain to take down Brother Voodoo on the other hand is completely rediculous. If you are trying to win and you don't have him on your team, your team is not as good as it could be (except if you're running a TB or 200+ point figure)

Precision Strike! Pure and simple. It kills Brother Voodoo dead. You can get to him a bit easier since most teams aren't packing a tk option. Please note I said most and not all. Brother Voodoo is a judo counter throw. It is only as strong as the force thrown at it. That is the problem right now. The easy way to think is to go to high damage. Brother Voodoo makes that a risk. He has a valid place in the meta providing risk to high damage pieces. If there is moderate or low damage, or a tent pole team, Brother Voodoo doesn't do that much. There are figures that are immune to mind control.

He isn't unbeatable for sure, but he's so damn good that there isn't really a reason not to play him. Even taking away his MC, he still can tie down pieces with essentially perplex (Smoke Cloud), has poison and Prob. Also, he can be used to move an OMA into position for the rest of your attackers. Point being, he is just too good not to play IMO.
(300 Modern Age, No Tactics, no figures with a base greater than 1x2, theme teams allowed)
That sounds like a great scenario. And it leads to some interesting conclusions: once you prohibit the meta* elements of the Tactics category like resources and EVA, the next best things to use (the choice of players at these top brackets) are Primes and Con Exclusives and Mystics and... the Gotham Police ATA I suppose?
Is there a reason why it was No Tactics? Are all ROC tournaments like that?
I really like the wide variety of the teams that were used; it's always nice when you don't see the same (or closely similar) teams over and over. It doesn't look like anyone built a theme team. Did I miss any in post #1? Is a non-theme team with B. Voodoo or a Mystic on it a better choice to bring to one of these than any Avengers, JLA, or X-Men theme team?
*I always think "meta" is shorthand for "there's no better way to spend your points, this stuff is just obviously the best because it's so cheap".

ROC has a rotating format every three months. Right now that is what the format is. To see details of this and how it works along with all other ROC stuff: Click the "ROC" tab at the top of this page. There you will articles and all kinds of other stuff. Note the "ROC Menu" on the left. Click those links to find out details and more information.
