I disagree with most of the postings on this thread.
1. Magneto's Death: Unlike most "deaths," the return of Magneto was always planned. Most "return from the dead" stories are one writer's way of bringing back a character that another writer killed off (and meant to kill). Examples: Havok, Revanche (Betsy Braddock, the caucasian version), Guardian (Alpha Flight), Douglock, and too many others to mention.
Thus, a convuluted explination as to the return. Morrison ALWAYS meant to bring Magneto. It was a ruse. I loved it. It was unexpected, but when you go back to look at the clues, they're there. Excellent job.
2. Magneto's Hitler-like complex: Magneto has ALWAYS believed that mutants should rule over humans. Other than his brief stint as the New Mutants' headmaster, Magneto has tried time and time again to take over the world, or at least a country. Also, this is the way he's been portrayed in both X-Men movies. In part two, he tried to kill EVERY human. So even if you don't like this characterization, this is how the majority of people are going to view Magneto. He's also been portrayed in this light in Ultimate X-Men.
3. Characters' personalities: I love the way the X-Men are being shown. Emma Frost has never been better. Scott's actually interesting (and don't forget, he did have a thing for Psylocke once, too). Beast is just so amazing (I love the reverse evolution idea).
What I really love about Morrison's writing (and the sign of a truly good comic book writer) is that he uses what other writers have done to enrich the character, rather than erasing/demolishing/refuting the prior history. Scott's still screwed up from his possession by Apocalypse. A new layer of intrege surrounds the Weapon X program.
Now, to each his own. Frankly, I find Extreme X-Men too frenzic and all over. I HATE Nightcrawler's new origin in Uncanny. I, however, will very much miss Morrison on New X-Men.
Ok, First, Kurt mysteriously became a catholic priest, for no tangible reason whatsoever, then, out of nowwhere, about half way through the run, we find out Kurt was actually brainwashed by a wierd mutant killing church, to be a priest, and to infiltrate for them, eventlly his memories were restored.
Then it was stated finally and clearly that Kurts mom is Mystique, and Kurts dad is DUH DUH DUH!! THE DEVIL.
No joke, Baphomet himself, except he wasn't really satan as people thought of him, he was an ancient mutant of a race of mutants that existed in biblical times, and had been mostly locked away in this other dimension since then. Occasionally escaping, to make a teleporter baby.
Eventually, all the teleporter babies went to that dimension, and the devil almost found a way out, but the Xmen managed to get back through a hole polaris created in Kurts brother. So now Nightcrawler has two brothers from his dad, The devil, that apparently live in the x mansion.
man.......that really is atrocious, were the hell do they come up with this. Im sure i few years my mate asked who nightcrawlers daddy is i said saten for a joke
that really sucks, I think im already going off NC

The only things I would have altered would be having the "Xorn" presonality become dominant in Magneto, and not have him act quite so ... silly (though I did get a few good laughs). I really liked what Morrison did with Emma, Scott, and Wolverine's character. Good stuff ... as a fan of Claremont but not a fan of the 90's X-men stuff for the most part (Onlsaught was such a travesty) I've really enjoyed Morrison's take on everyon'e favorite mutants. He does get a bit InSaNe for the most part ... but when he reigns in the chaos that spring from his head (ex. Assault on Weapon X) a little bit, the result is quite good.

Exterminate all mutants
