But that's the thing though, He does have 1 generic card from the RL to use for the sculpt plus the RL and GP cards for the other two sculpts. Where is it that rules are being broken?
Also, being an avid Dominion player, the RL has now gone from "must-have" to "I will let you name my first born if you give me the ship". Ok, not really. ...well, I guess it would depend on whether I like the name. But you get the idea. I must haves it. It is ...precioussss to me.
DS's specific example works within the rules no problem. GP, RL, and a GP figure using RL upgrades.
My example was using 3 GP Generics (or 1 RL and 2 GPs) using one card to represent all three with the RLs upgrades. While not technically against the rules (as far as I know) most of the members of the store that I go to wouldn't be happy with that.

Actually, I'd say that is against the rules.
You have to place the Shield tokens over the ship's card. If you only have one card, it would be easy to get things confused as to which Upgrades/Shields/Capt belong to each ship.
Granted, this could easily be rectified by using the Captain card as the identifying card and put the shields over it. I'd not have an issue with it personally in this instance as I do not think the Tech slot switch is THAT game breaking but who knows what slippery slope that may end up bringing about in the future.

Considering that Print and Play isn't allowed in this game, you're probably correct, however in a normal game I wouldn't think players would have a problem.
Dominion and competitive events aside, you are correct that one Tech slot will not break the game here, people are just needlessly restrictive.

You'd need the ship card and a ship token (don't care what's on the other side).
For fun, casual night, absolutely cool though.
Agree with you both.
For casual night? GAME ON!!!
I'm wanting to try out a few things in casual play to see how balanced they may be so I know whether to consider them for house rules for OP events:
1. Attack Squadrons as Unique ships rather than resources.
2. Multiple Attack Squadrons in a build (likely never going to allow in OP but sounds fun).
3. Skilled Helmsman (from the Tholian Web Episode OP) as a Unique Crew upgrade rather than a resource.
I'm sure there are others I am forgetting but those are the biggies that come to mind at the moment.
It really isn't. There are a few really cool and fun people that I have no problem playing with, but the good people are outnumbered 3 to 1.
This situation has also caused our TO to retire after the Dominion War is finished.
So...
At least there are a few people I can play outside the tournament series in fun games that I don't have to stress over knowing every single rule and interaction in that moment just to defend myself from rules jockeying and hardcore competitive play.
Wow. I'm really sorry to hear that it has gone to that point. However, If I were the TO, I'd honestly just say 'eff that', I'm the TO and I will run the events the way I see fit. If you have a problem with that, you can go set up a meeting with me and the venue owner. If the venue decides that my TO methods are not what they want then fine. But until/unless that comes to be (and I'll paraphrase here and be less politically correct) : "Sit down and shut up."
Having said that, allowing 3 generic ships to be played with only one generic card is basically allowing print and play. Which is going to open up the possibility of fleets having 2-3 copies of Romulan Pilot (even though I only have one physical copy) on ships that have combinations of Breene Aide plus (pick one) Spock, Geordi, Dimitri, etc... So it will end up hurting the for-fun guys much more than helping them.
Sorry for that confusion. reklawyad is correct in that I'm planning on using the G-P generic ship token for use with the R-L generic card. I'll still be running the G-P and R-L named versions.
This all stems from the initial pangs of "buyer's remourse" I was feeling after buying two G-P before we knew about the R-L coming out. Now I can be happy in the fact that the second G-P pack actually has more value due to it's ability to be run as the generic for either named ship (and also keeps me from actively pursueing a second R-L).
You'd still need 3 R-L cards if you were attempting to run 3 generics as you'll need the cards to show which ship has which Captain & Upgrades and whatnot.
My Rav Laerst and Gor Portas have slightly different paint jobs. I could see that being an issue if people could readily tell that you are using the GP as a RL even if you do have the correct cards.
