Great podcast guys as always! Yeah after saying that I'm gonna....gonna have to say a few things....
Shimmer has an ability to punish mystics team ability users by dealing them an unavoidable damage as well. What does that do? It evens the playing field when you are fighting an opponent with a mystic team. I don't know how your venue plays but we have ALOT of players who abuse the mystic ta....all of the time. Her trait is worthless? Hardly...
Mighty Thor trades modern defense values with great reducers and a RIDICULOUS attack and damage ratio! His attack values are so high that his targets will always hurt. He can also do an average 5-6 damage for the majority of his dial via range combat expert. Power cosmic and 10 range....heck stick him adjacent to thors mighty chariot to bump his defense to an 18 impervious! Speaking of thors mighty chariot....
Thors mighty chariot- 17 clicks of pure team enhancing awesome. First I think your assessment is bias to begin with because you do not partake in games larger than 300-500 points....which is sad. There are ALOT of comic accurate teams that you will never be able to use because you do not play 400-800 point games. Despite what the main player base believes....300 point battles are NOT the only way to play this game. If that were the case then the majority of 350 point and higher figures are worthless. You are missing a lot in my opinion.
The chariot can grant an Asgardian team high defenses and damage just by sitting next to them. It is the golden aged version of the team loving fear itself Odin figure....which by the way would also enhance the heck out of Odin as well. Being able to destroy ALL blocking terrain and walls that are adjacent as a free action is insane. Being able to choose your damage as a locked value or otherwise during blades/claws/fangs is insane.Super strength bashing for 8 damage is insane.Dragging opposing characters for damage is insane. Having SOOOO many clicks of regeneration for insane longevity is....well insane. A player that loves asgardian based teams should try and find a way to make this giant finesse/power piece work as more than a paper weight. I've seen it wreck house but it was during a 700 point match.
But to each his own. We have members that WONT play 300-500 point matches as they think they are to low.

I agree and disagree. We base a lot of our stuff on "Tounrmanet standard play" which is 300pts. I just played a 600pt game last night. Just when judging/rating figs I usually use the 300pt standard. When going above that, yes some what seem to be "too much" figures become very useful when you fill them out with other figures.
I'm pretty sure I plainly stated that I was basing my picks on the stuff that I play/own as they relate to the formats that I play in. If I didn't make that clear, I apologize. I know that I've mentioned it in the past several times.
We play 400, 500 and 600 point games at my venue. Which is why I consider Thor's Mighty Chariot to be less than great. I'd say that the Chariot is pretty bad in anything less than an 800 point game, and even then, I don't think it's that good in the current game environment.
The Mighty Thor is capable of dealing a lot of damage, but for a character who is pushing 300 points, you have to be careful to support him in just the right way. Which says to me that he probably isn't all that great, nor would I expect him to be this many years after he was made.
Shimmer certainly has her uses. I even admitted in the podcast that she isn't terrible. But her skill set is firmly entrenched in such a small niche, I bet I could play her four weeks in a row at my venue and never really feel like I got my moneys worth. I don't think we see Mystic abuse teams at our venue as often as you do.

I've played him a half-dozen times in point values ranging from 500-1500. I haven't listened to the podcast yet to hear what your perspectives on him was, but....
Thor's Mighty Chariot sucks no matter the point value.

Thor's Mighty Chariot has starting values of 12/12/18/5. While he doesn't start with those stats, ASM Drac can get to that level after a few good hits for 214. Icons 047 Superman also has those exact same stats and +2 range for 222 (and he still has move-and-attack with Running Shot). White Lantern Sinestro ALSO matches those stats with Running Shot and +1 target for 249 (and probably a million more dollars). In Modern Age, King Hyperion gets those stats with Hypersonic Speed and even matches Chariot's Super Strength so he can get up to 7-8 damage or so with more options and four more keywords at 266. SM Darkseid gets Quintessence, those exact same starting stats, Outwit, and P/PB for 267. And then, for the icing on the cake, Legacy Ares, GG045 Thanos, Superboy Prime, and Avengers Prime all beat the Chariot's stats, for 275, 300, 350, and 400 points, respectively.
I'm not saying you should never build around Thor's Chariot, I'm saying that 500 points is a ridiculous point cost even in big point games. Even in 1500 points, that one figure is a third of your force. If I want to field a truly massive Asgardian force, as cool and dramatic as it is, instead of Thor's chariot, I'd rather have an entire rock solid force of Asgardian warriors or another massive-point Asgardian to serve as a leader. Perhaps even...hmmm...the 400 point Thor chase?! (Who is awesome no matter what Jeremiah says)

I'm sorry that you are unable to effectively use the figure in question....but that doesn't mean it sucks. Let's not blame the piece guys....

(Damage) Minion: Joker Says I'm Expendable: When a friendly character named The Joker is within 8 squares, The Joker Thug can use Poison. When he does, The Joker Thug is dealt 1 unavoidable damage.
While 5 clicks for 40 points, with stealth, sounds OK, look at what he can do with that:
He could walk next to somebody, so that he might poison somebody next turn (along with himself)-- if he has the Joker around. And they don't just kill him.
Or he could attack. Going to have to borrow an AV to hit, sure. If he has somebody to borrow it from.
I could even give them a pass for thematic play-- but we have Hired Goons, DCU Joker Thugs, and a variety of DKR Joker Thugs that range from great to OK. But all are better than these guys.

No, let's not blame the piece.
Let's blame the designer who was likely dropped on his head as a child and rendered incapable of objectively determining point values. Because it's the designers fault for making Thor's Mighty Chariot unplayable bad.
Because objectively, that's what that dial is, just like World's Finest. I've used both "effectively" and I've won various builds with both figures. And they unquestionably are dramatically overcosted for their dials, or underpowered for their costs--take your pick.
I own both, and I play both. And I'll continue to do so because they're cool pieces, and I'll do it in spite of the pieces sucking.

I'd love to play mine, but considering our highest build is 600 points, I'm not even sure I'd know what to pair it with. Maybe I'll have to give it a whirl, because it is a legitimately awesome looking thing to put on the map.

I know I've played it in 600 before. Lemme see if I can find that build.

After every cast, someone always asks about the music. Steve should really start posting the credits for that in the first post of the thread.
SECONDED!!
The thing about TMC is he is a 500 point support piece. Based on sculpt and point value alone, your first impressions are that he's a frost giant slaying 500 point beast, then you realise he has enhancement and defend. Not that those are bad powers, but at 500?
Maybe one day they will make cost effective asgardian generics that minion off the piece. (Hey, we can dream)
