Tank turret still has some places where it is better than the 0 pt alternatives.
It is super-secret tech against Black Witch, because she can only replace 'standard' objects, and the turret is a 'special' object.
So its 2 pts may be worth it in order to ensure it doesn't get abracadabra-ed into a mjolnir or scorpio-key, and then you don't have a heavy to bash with.
In my perfect world the tank turret would get errata that made it work like the old dumpster. I think that ability would warrant 2 points
I think another option would be to say the sculpt that takes up 2 squares actually occupies 2 squares. That would give it an advantage over the standard objects.
I like your idea better, but I think either would be viable.

I thought it did take up 2 squares?
"Its just the Rascal King behind the bars, or the one in front of them!"
"Under skilled, unprepared, Hey, who wouldn't be scared?"
Okay, with the new Winter Soldier starter, we have two new ultra heavy standard objects with 0 cost. The tank turret (as most people know) was a tournament prize which is a special object whose only function is that it is an ultra heavy object with a point cost of 2.
So, in other words, the tournament prize Tank Turret offers *exactly* the same benefits as the 0 cost ultra heavy objects (the jet engine and the anchor), but has the following disadvantages:
(1) It costs 2 points.
(2) As a special object, it must start 5 or more squares away from any starting area.
(3) As a special object, you may not play it on the same force as a resource.
Is this fair? I mean, sure, there's the fact that the tank turret is a cool-looking 3D object along the lines of Foom's finger, the silver anvil, and Captain America's shield. But those three objects also have a 0 cost and don't have the "special object" restrictions.
And as a tournament prize, shouldn't the Tank Turret have some use? Or is it okay to have another "Giant Stride" feat or B&B's "ATAs which are feats" that were being awarded to players just as those feats were no longer legal to play?
Let's say there's some figure that has PC with 7 range. Then let's say they print a new figure 2 years later with all the same stats, same value, same everything, except that it has PC with 8 range. Should the old figure be errata'd to have 8 range?
No. What you've found is a perfect example (although a subtle one) of power creep. And I'm okay with just not using Tank Turret ever again. Can't say I got much use out of it to begin with.
I try to get out, and they pull me right back in...
I don't think they need to change the Tank Turret. Mostly Obsolete is acceptable. However would it be NICE if the changed it to something more useful? Absolutely.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
I don't need to house rule the Tank Turret to give it the dumpsters powers. At our home games (usually 4 player games) we traditionally put the dumpster in the center of the map every game, in addition to the players' objects.
This thread has given me the idea that it would be fun to have an ultra-heavy object that degrades with use. Hit someone with it and replace it with a heavy object. Use it in another attack and replace it with a light object, etc... I'd want to make a set of double-sided tokens that showed the deterioration of the object. What would be a fair price for such an object? (Particularly if it is ruled to not be dropped between attacks.)
Thanks, I was going to bring up Giant Stride if you didn't. At least the Tank Turret was justifiably special for well over a year.
With Print-and-Play, WK does have the option of redefining what makes the Tank Turret "Special." I'd consider it a simple show of good faith if they added an ability of some sort. Heck, it's not hard to think of some that would be fun and appropriate -- can be thrown, grants Giant Reach, chance of not being destroyed in an attack...

this is the best idea. a superheavy you could swing at someone 2 squares away would be worth 2 pts without being overpowered or overcosted

I actually really like this idea, and might have to use it at some point...maybe built it into a scenario or something.
I wish WizKids would hear this idea and give it some thought
Around here it's already been house ruled that you can use it as an ordinary 3d ultra-heavy, like a foom finger or silver mjolnir for regular heavies. Or, if you want to pay the 2 points for it, that's fine too.

I wouldn't have it actually grant Giant Reach. That would let the character use the Carry ability, which in no way should be granted by holding a significant portion of a tank. Now, the ability to attack two squares out? I'd say definitely yes to that and maybe any opposing characters in a direct line as well.
