Yep - any character that can't win any game by itself is lousy - that's why they made the Belt, Gauntlet, Book of Skulls, Phoenix Resource... to fix all these lousy characters....
what takes precedence when fighting M10th Iron Man with a resource?
HERE GOES NUTHIN': Phoenixbuster Iron Man's attacks deal penetrating damage if the target character is assigned a relic or a resource or possesses any of the following: "Giant damage symbol", "Colossal damage symbol", the Power Cosmic team ability, the Cosmic or Phoenix Force keyword, or the word Phoenix in its name as a separate word.
vs
ADAPTIVE ARMOR: When Iron Man would take damage from a character assigned a relic or resource, Iron Man ignores that damage and rolls a d6. On a result of 1-3, deal Iron Man 1 unavoidable damage. This ability can't be ignored.
I'm not sure if you worded your question as you intended but if M10th IronMan is assigned a resource and gets attacked by Phoenixbuster, the attack deals penetrating damage.
However, (I think you meant it this way) If Phoenixbuster ALSO has a resource the damage from Phoenixbuster to M10th Ironman would still be penetrating (going through Impervious) but M10th would still get to roll for his trait because his Armor doesn't care about reducing, just ignoring.
That trait sure would be cool if he didn't do penetrating damage his entire dial!!!!!!!!
On the other hand, he's a big target with a fairly wide range, so the potential to do 1 damage with PW vs 5 penetrating with a standard attack is pretty sweet.

I disagree with both of you. 5 penetrating damage from 10 squares away, with PW as an option as well, is much more dangerous than +1 attack/damage. RS+PW puts this guy only 5 squares away, that's a pretty dangerous place to be in. I'd rather take people out from 10 squares, and have the PW as backup if they get too close. Oh and even if he gets based he's still dealing penetrating damage.

You come bring that strategy @ figs like AvX Spidey and we'll see who comes out at top. My point was there is a chance that trats is absolutely useless. Stat modifier wouldn't be.

So arguably the best figure in the game against ranged attacks will be hard for this guy to kill? Not too worried about that. Also if I had to kill Spider-Man with this figure (I would use him to go after bigger targets, that's just me) it's not as if he doesn't have PW to fall back on. That's a pretty nice power to have in your back pocket for figures like Spidey.
I'm just saying the trait is unique and useful. Sometimes not useful? Okay sure against figures with no reducers to begin with but... so? Traits don't have to apply 100% of the time. Two simple Perplexers could replace your proposed modifier trait entirely. 10 square range and essentially ignoring characters (:g-giant: sees over them) is really good in today's game where 8 range is high, and makes the trait really stand out to me.
I wouldn't say his trait is useless at all. It is not uncommon during a home game for me to go toe to toe against one of the old school colossals like Spectre, Dr M, or Galactus. All of which usually can not be targeted by pen/psy blast. His trait is a good way around that if you are having a hard time getting good positioning for pw.

Yes. I don't think its useless just a bit redundant. Now if the trait said unavoidable damage that would be cool. A lot of those clix are going to have invincible on their dials at some point. He will be doing exactly 2 damage to WAX chase cyclops.

Lol, read his WHOLE trait before you post :disappointed: . Cosmic keyword and TA still applies. 5 penetrating dmg unmodified is pretty devastating. Getting him to attack range will prove difficult as he IS a giant.
Finaly got my phoenixbuster iron man. And what a long fought battle it was to get him. I would've loved to have won the dark cyclops but I am very happy to walk away with this. Cant wait to use him and see how he does. One of my favorite story lines was AVX. So when this event started I was very excited. Such an awesome piece, one hell of a dial, and a cool sculp..
Just got mine as well. Looks great doesn't it? This piece is now the most dominant piece that I own. It breaks anything I drop it on. My other figures don't have that level of dominance.
