Thinking of the following builds for OP1 pure 80 points, no resources, no AO and a OP6 (not planning to win, just have fun), mixed 100 points, all resources avail, 1 AO
4th Division Battleship
Gul Dukat
Captured Intelligence
Omet'Iklan
Antiproton Scan
5th Wing Patrol Ship
Gelnon
Boheeka
FOR the 100 point build, I'd add in Hideki Fighters
AND United Force AO
For the AO points I would wither equip the 5th Wing with a Keldon class cloaking device 9 points and Shroud 1 point
OR
put Toman'Torax on the Battleship 5 points, and Dorsal Weapons Array 3 points also on the Battleship and Long Range Tachyon on the 5th Wing for 2 points?
Omet'Iklan is awesome. But he is the third die fixer that I choose when playing Dominion. With Dukat, you are almost always going to use him for Battle Stations, so Boheeka is probably the go to for the Battleship. I'd drop Omet'Iklan for Breen Aide on the Patrol Ship and Dorsal Weapons Array on the Battleship. Or put the Phased Polaron Beam on the Patrol Ship.
Also, I've always found better results using Tetryon Emissions over Captured Intelligence. YMMV.
What worries me the most about using this build in OP1, is that you will have to drive a mack truck through an obstacle course. And because the truck has no defense, if will eventually get torn to shreds.
I was thinking I could alternate between Cloak and Tetryon or just have the option for either depending on the need and both are sturdy ships with the 180 degree firing arcs, so despite their lack of maneuverability compared to some ships, they shouldn't have to worry about having to maneuver in the mine fields to get in arc.
I was thinking the 5th Wing on point, it's fragile, but with Gelnon, Tetryon and free battlestations using 4th Div, he should be able to get the Gelnon action in with a good chance of surviving, and the chance of gaining a second Battlestations from Gelnon's action. 4th Division is pretty straight forward, but it won't have maneuverability in the OP mines either.
Or should I avoid Dominion on the first OP and look at another faction?
Well, personally, I do like the Keldon's better than the Battleships. The cloaking devices are going to be a double edged sword though. The Keldon's only have 4 hull so dropping their shields is always a risky maneuver. Instead, take a Kraxon as your second ship. They both have really nice front arcs and the Kraxon will give the Koranak a virtual 4 shields (assuming you can keep in within range 1). If you take the Dorsal Weapons Array, I would leave the cloak (and vice versa). Each of them is disabled after use (as well as Tetryon Emissions), and the cloak requires the action to cloak as well. So you will always feel like you don't have enough actions to do everything. Also, using the Dorals will force you to drop cloak and I don't feel like a 3 dice attack that has to be re-enabled is worth it. I have used the cloak and sensor echos to pretty good effect. If you are confident in your piloting skills, the Cloak will be amazing for you. If not, the Dorsal Weapons will help mitigate the inability to shake your opponent off your tail.
Wasn't sure if doubling up Dorsals and Tetryons are worth it?
Yes and no. It all depends on whether you think they will come into play. I would avoid putting the Cloak on the Kraxon. 1, it negates the Kraxon's special because you've dropped its shields. 2, It suffers the same problem as the Keldon's in that its hull value is only a modest 4.
Also, I think my previous post was might have been a bit confusing. I meant that if you take cloak, its a good idea to take the Kraxon, but not a good idea (to me) to take the Dorsals. On the Cardassian ships, I just don't feel like the Dorsals are worth taking. They all have 180 firing arcs. As long as you aren't coming at your enemy straight on, you should be able to do a bank to keep your target in front of you.
Because of Kraxon's ability, you will have to move the fleet either in close formation. Start at the very edge of the board and move 1 forward rnd 1 and cloak. Round 2 move 1-2 with the Koranak forward and re-enable the cloak and 1 forward with the Kraxon. Basically you're gonna want to get the Koranak out in front of the Kraxon. Be agressive. You can pop both Tetryon emissions and Captured Intel on the same round if you need to. At most, I'd take 2 rounds of combat before I just fly past the opposing fleet. If you can time it right, you can have the first round engagement with just the Koranak at range 3 and he Kraxon out of range. With cloak and range, Koranak will have 6 def dice, option to get +3 more with Tetryons or +1 die and an evade token if you don't want to spend an action. Second round of engagement, try to you move the Koranak to the left or right of the target. The 180 arc will leave it in your firing arc and if it doesn't have a 180 as well, it shouldn't be able to fire back. Move the Kraxon to range 1 and pop the Tetryons for 4 def dice. It now has 5 attack dice because of range with Danar's single die reroll. Or go really aggressive and move into range 1 and scan. If they are cloaked, you will gete +1 die from A-pS and +1 from range. Use the layout of the mines as a suggestion of how aggressive you want to fly, but never let them dictate what you do. As much as it stinks to give away free damage, it stinks even more to miss a valuable window of opportunity.
And remember that you have that sensor echo while cloaked! It is an amazing ability that can really change the look of the battle field.
Thanks! I think I am going to stick with this and see how it works, I player a few games today with it today and it did well. Whether it will hold up to more experienced players I do not know.
