How was the Lone Ranger himself? I'm a fan of the old time radio serials, and would hate to see this go the way of Green Hornet, and make the hero look like a total idiot so that the sidekick can be made to look good.
In the old serials both Tonto and the Lone Ranger were competant guys, both of whom came up with plans or saved the day. I'm worried this one will be all Tonto and his idiot white guy sidekick (not unlike Green Hornet, Shanghai Noon/Knights even after Jacki Chan said he wouldn't do that, and others).
I'd really like to see this film, but have a lot of skepticism about it. I have fond memories of listening to the old radio dramas on my casette player as a kid and have really enjoyed the discs containing the old programs I now have. I'd hate to have those spit on.

Took my kids to see this movie a few weeks ago. I had little (well no real) expectations for this movie. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I actually liked this movie. Johnny Depp was great (what a surprise.....), the story was good, the visuals were very well done. TBH, there really wasn't anything bad for me to say about this movie. Now, I am not saying this movie was a masterpiece or any such thing, but it was a very fun, enjoyable movie.
Solid 8/10 for me.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
I give it a 2.5/10 after having watched it. It is NOT faithful to the Lone Ranger beyond some superficial instances. It is also quite insulting to the Lone Ranger himself as well as Tonto. Plus, the stuff with Silver just gets to be ludicrous. Not as bad as some other films I've seen, but still pretty awful.
It is also needlessly gruesome with the cannibalism and fake leg for what should be easily digestible fare.
Not recommended if you are a fan of the Lone Ranger.
