I like Gelfangels's idea of pairing-up The Thunderer w/ 'Crawler, but I would go with dp047a Shang-Chi for the rest of the 300-pt team Martial Artist Themed Team. I cannot remember if ATA's can be used on Generic Themed Teams; if so, toss Secret Avengers on Chi to fill-out the remaining 5-pts, otherwise select Legionnaire Flight Ring.
Love this piece. My new favorite Nightcrawler. 19 defense with self prob is a nasty combo. Drove my friend nuts. He had 2 probs and I only had Nightcrawler's. Almost every attack ended up using all 3 probs and resulting in a miss.
Ha! 17 DV with E/D and CR, plus 11 AV with PS, AND SELF PROB!!! For 80 points!!!! SERIOUSLY?!? He seems broken... Add to cart... Purchase...
While he is very good for his points I don't think he is broken in my opinion...my friend played him against me and I had to build a team against it so I just used black lightning...I used the outsiders ta and then shot him from 8 squares so he couldn't use PC then I proceeded to take him out from there

Sounds like he was left out in the open like a sitting duck...in which case I'm not surprised he was KO'd so easily. In the hands of a good player he can be a real threat, but lacking something else (like indom, stealth, a way to attack then move off) NC is far from broken. I'd say he's the most playable and balanced NC in the game to date.
The positives that have been said are all valid so no need to regurgitate, what I'd like to say is nothing made me happier than to see the Excalibur Keyword. Although comic accurate, the Team Base Version just left much to be desired. So, I think Brian Braddock just found a new buddy. After some thought, I think I'm gonna roll with this Modern Age Excalibur THEMED TEAM: Captain Britain (110) + Colossus (100) + Nightcrawler (80) + Kuurth's Hammer (8) + Tank Turret (2) = 300 Points Exact. Obviously the Gem of Cyttorak is more comic accurate for Rasputin's recent storyline but keeping it Modern Age it seemed Kuurth's Hammer was the best resemblance to Cyttorak (for obvious reasons.) Empower on Colossus could end up being a game changer for this build ...

SCORE: 90%. This version of Nightcrawler immediately had a place on my All-Time Favourites team (alongside the Thing and Squirrel Girl). He is just great, especially if you team him up with a fellow X-Man with Empower, like Colossus or Wolverine. Then he can Phase up to a Super Senses or Mastermind piece and really cause trouble.
And I like that he has weaknesses, too. The do-everything Nightcrawler from WoS was a superb example of "going too far". This Nightcrawler has to watch out for Poison, Outsiders, Charge+Hvy Object+4 Damage, and opponents Perplexing his damage down to Everett K. Ross levels. The *only* thing I'm not 100% loving on this piece is that he can lose Phase/Teleport through Outwit or damage.

Played him a few times now and he ALWAYS pulls his weight and more. That trait and that fantastic prob power just make him so hard to hit. Yes he is not unbeatable by any means which is good. He's one of, if not THE, best ways to spend 80 points in this game. He's fantastic for tie-up and secondary attacks with that precision strike. Love him and so glad I pulled 2 in my grav feed. 5*

Why would you be happy to pull two? There's so many figures in the game there should really be no need to cop out and double up on named figures...I mean generics is one thing but....

Not that I feel it to be a "cop out" anyway but I will reiterate that I don't think there is a better way to spend 80 points and if I'm playing in a tournament or something and feel they give me the best chance to win for the least points then I will absolutely run two when allowed by whatever build. If you don't play doubles good on you, I have no problem with it.
It's not like there's never been a comic where two of the same (or ostensibly the same) character work together (alternate reality versions, clones, etc). I keep largely away from non-generic doubles for aesthetic reasons, but tournament play gets pretty dirty. So if someone thinks a pair DoFP Nightcrawlers will be most effective, then that's fine.
He's good, no doubt. Still, I'll always prefer an HSSing NC to him.
19 Defense is pretty good, but in these days lots of characters can hit that even with a reroll, and he will be available for retaliation. Sure, for 80 pts there are worse ways to go, but for NC (even without the WoS) I believe there are better ones.
As for the question about doubling characters or not, sure it is allowed in tournaments, but I totally dislike it too. Even putting say a Tony Stark and an Iron Man seems distateful to me, despite being able to explain it several ways, but twice the exact same fig : bleah !
