A discussion came up at our venue yesterday about the Days of Future Past Magneto's white attack power:
Quote
YOU GO WHERE I CANNOT FOLLOW: Give Magneto a power action and choose a friendly character within 8 squares and line of fire; deal Magneto 2 unavoidable damage and modify the chosen character's combat values by +1 for the remainder of the game.
The first time this shows up on Magneto's dial he's on click #5 of 6 and so this power will almost always kill him (unless he's got the M'Kraan Crystal or something similar) so in most cases he'll be KO'd and therefore out of the game. This is important to the discussion.
The proposed scenario was that Magneto uses his power to give a permanent +1 to Wolverine's combat values for the remainder of the game. Wolverine is then targeted by Pulse Wave. Would the +1 still be in effect or would it get ignored?
As the [secondary] judge at my venue I ruled that the +1 would still be in effect since the source of the +1 was Magneto who effectively was not in the AoE for the Pulse Wave, using the Perplex (outside the AoE) VS Pulse Wave as precedence. For those not aware of what I mean, it's been ruled that if a character has their defense perplexed up and the character with the actual perplex power is not in the AoE of the pulse wave the +1 is still in effect.
Excellent! I had a feeling that this was the way it would go and that I had ruled it right but it took several times to explain my reasoning and the player that brought it up still doesn't believe me. (Though he's still getting used to me being an active judge at our venue and has been questioning nearly every thing I've ruled on)
