Fantomex when he gets to pick the map can seem particularly tough, maybe even unfair.
However, on a wide open map, he is far more vulnerable. He is along the same lines as GG Dr. Strange, GSX Prof. X and all the other "shoot from nowhere" figures. He is just the best of them because who he gets to shoot through can come back, has Outwit, and he has RCE and Sharpshooter.
However, if these exact teams were put on the map Tanis got to pick last year, as well as getting to choose to go first and starting areas, there would be next to nothing I could do to stop him from getting off his big Nova Blast spot, or his Winter Soldier with 13 range sniping someone for 6, and it goes completely the other way.
Spiral isn't really that bad to me, because the opponent can plug the hole now. That makes her a much more strategic piece to use. Sure it can be used to bridge the gap in a map like this, but it can also be used as a distraction, getting the opponent to divert forces to covering certain areas, whether you want to attack there or not.
If anything, I'd say these last 2 Championship matches between Tanis and I maybe just show that map choice may be too big an advantage to give out.
they shoulda done the same thing with EVA that they did with BNEE. kill it once and its gone. as it is now, its a joke. you can't base him cause he will sharpshooter you and you cant stay back cause he will tear you to ribbons, sending EVA out on suicide runs.

Isn't that pretty much true of most good teams? You go over and base them, they tear you up; you wait for them to come to you, they tear you up?
That is basically what Tanis has been running with this SHIELD team for 3 seasons. Teams that wait and move up slowly in forces that would overpower the smaller pieces on Tanis' team get Nova Blasted to oblivion, or get sniped from 13 squares away by a Trick Shotting Winter Soldier.
Get a couple figures over there in a hurry to base, and he's got other figures that can put up a fight and take down one or two figures before reinforcements come. (Mostly due to all the Perplex and PC making seemingly ordinary attackers into killers)
My team works the exact. same. way. I have Nova Blasters and a big RCE character I can use against teams that sit back, and I have figures that can fight up close if need be.
So in a way, I basically said "If I can't beat him, join him" and built the hyper-Tanis team. I doubt the similarities are lost on him.
I'm surprised that Repulsor Shield hadn't been used more abundantly against these teams.
And I reiterate: Map choice is too powerful in this League. Random maps are too deciding in this League. They should be Random, but predetermined. Let's end map ####ery now!

I like Random maps. If maps were known ahead of time, there would just be teams that have planned out super teams for each map rather than having to be more balanced.
It is one of the few things that can keep a figure like Fantomex somewhat balanced. Sure, he can hit from across the board, but if I get the wide open map, I could be a sitting duck against the other team.
Wont help against Pulse Wave though and that is Tanis Bread and butter

Yeah map choice is a pretty powerful choice. Maybe for the superbowl the commish can pick 5 to 10 very neutral maps that won't be too different from one another to pick from. I know it's very subjective and how would the choice be made for the 5 to 10 maps. But the only other option I can think of would be to randomize the superbowl map again.
