I'm a fairly new player, I've been playing for about 3-4 months now and can't seem to win at all, this isn't my first time playing, I played 2007-late 2009, but back then we only played figures vs. Figures, no bfc's or feats and I played fairly well. Now that I've returned out of every game I've played my record is 2 wins- 20 losses, I can not win for anything (my two wins were with weaponer). I don't mind losing because I just love to play the game and have a good time but it's getting harder to maintain interest when you play as bad as me haha. Can someone offer some me some help or something please? I would love to start winning a game or two!! Lol
Right now all the events I play are sealed so I just try to make a team that's able to compete, my only successful teams so far have been heavily close combat
Alright well the more we know about how you play, the more we can point out what you can do better.
First, close combat characters can be great but the game is definitely set up to make ranged figures easier to play. Figures are often most dangerous on their top clicks so the game, probably to a fault, depends a lot on who can get the first strike in. It is MUCH easier to get first strike off with a RS/HSS character (bonus if you have penetrating strike, I always try to include that of precision strike in my teams).
Aside from that stats and probability control/perplex (outwit too isn't bad, just not as useful it seems) are what you want to look for.
If you really want to play close up, try to incorporate telekinesis on your teams. This would preferably be on a low-cost character or a character that can also hold it's own in a fight (like cable).
I don't have much experience in the sealed format but saturnflight has a great series of articles on the site rating figures effectiveness in sealed so I would start there.
If you are good at positioning I would look at Running Shot/Pulse wave combos. A lot of my closest games have been won and lost by a well placed pulse wave.
