I was surprised that she doesn't share a keyword with Bishop. The way Bishop forces opponents into close combat, she's a solid piece waiting to unload on them. With those traits, its gonna be easy for her to get +3 attack a lot (and her numbers stay decently high throughout the dial).
Wow....for 95 you have a figure who can deal 6 damage for the majority of her dial. Her first half has a defense of 19,18,19,18 IF she charges SIX squares into close combat. Her middial leadership is so comic accurate, it signifies her political career. I like figures that don't waste their first click with leadership and instead has outwit. Later on during the battle she can out action her opponent with leadership!
Perhaps her best defense would be her end dial.....she gets reducers +(toughness )And and falls straight into stealth! This will keep her from being attacked especially after she had to move up close to opposing characters. Good figure for the cost.
In friendly games I house rule her "Wandering Duo" trait to effect GSX Vulcan instead of Bishop as the "Imperial Duo"... they actually share keywords, they were teamed together much longer than Bishop and Deathbird, and honestly, poor GSX Vulcan needs all the help he can get. Her and him have enough room at 370 to add a Shi'ar Guard and go to war against the galaxy, like an outer space Jaime and Cersei.
WIN/LOSS: 2-1 The second version of Deathbird provides some heavy duty upgrades but a loss of a range option. Outwit to start, she needs to use that long movement range early to base an opponent since she is prone to getting shot down. Leadership mid-dial is a nice surprise as she supports allies and can chance the tide of battle as she waits for an ally to hurt someone. Stealth pops up and she moves into taxi-mode, providing cover or a second target to take some heat off the fare. Hopefully they make a Bishop that is easier to get and better supports Deathbird (or remake Deathbird). As of now she is part of my new-found favorite cosmic team: Shi'ar.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
Deathbird has to focus on avoiding the gauntlet of ranged attacks she is sure to face against which she has no defenses at all to be of use... her Outwit is not something she can hang back and enjoy, which means she puts it on the line to see combat. On the positive side, there's 7 clicks here of good damage potential in close quarters... on the other hand she is 95 points, which is a big expense for someone whose feathers are easy to pluck at range.
The best way to spike her attack value is with splashy hits from her teammates like EE or PW or Quake, which could send her up to some big numbers when she swoops in. May your BCFs be huge!
