Supposedly, there was an exceptionally low turn-out for D&DAW and several STAW players decided to jump into the D&D event because 1) it started first and 2) they had a better chance of placing into better prizing.
yeah - there's a rumor that bad things are afoot in D&D land based on some resent price slashes so I can see that one being emptier. I'm a bit surprised by Star Trek though... I wonder if that prompted the big announcement today (which honestly rekindled my interest a bit).

I don't expect to see a huge amount of people at Attack Wing Nationals for a few reasons: One, it isn't a great game. I love it, but the Meta is pretty messed up. Because of this, most of the players are fluff players and don't have much interest in traveling to Nationals to compete for the title. Two, there is very little in the way of prize support at these events. Most of the prizes are retail items, so there is little incentive to go if you aren't concerned with proving yourself the best.

The sculpt design is great, and the idea of combining aerial and ground combat is awesome, but the fact that they're a higher price is a turn off, and I'm not happy with the way WK burned through Tactics then went to Attack Wing, and then burned through Attack Wing to do DnD. Also, I think Star Trek has less competition. DnD needs to compete with Warhammer almost directly, and Warhammer is settled in to the market already, has an indefinite viability, and allows more customization since painting and modding is actively encouraged.
6 people in Star Trek Nationals, even Canadian Nationals, is pretty abysmal though, and the idea that DnD is even worse off is pretty crazy.

Yep. I always run fluff teams in both games and have very little interest in playing in an upper-level event (though I'd gladly play the two guys who finished 5 & 6 - those are my kind of peeps!!).
While the D&DAW prizing is also retail stuff, I think it is more attractive as most of its retail stuff is not out yet so there is more incentive to compete for it (Tiamat, Bohomut, Premium Silver). If you already have DS9 and the Cube, there's no real light at the end of the tunnel.
Put a "create-a-card" provision in National and Worlds? People would be much more interested.

I have seen several threads, on various forums, of players jumping from Attack Wing to X-Wing because of the state of the game.
I wanted to like D&D Attack Wing, but they lost me with the ground units.
I wonder if the proposed changes are enough to draw the lost players back and turn the game around or has Wizkids spoiled those players for good?
