New Top The Game haven't played yet.. First Build Help Please
Okay So I haven't even played a game yet.
I have watched a few you tube Video's to learn the basics of how to play. Will be reading the rulebook soon.. (Surprisingly The Video's are easier to Understand)
I have a Very Limited Collection I have bought The Uncanny X-Man Starter, Yugioh Starter, about 25 UCX Packs, 5 D&D and 5 Yugioh
Its too much to list by name, but by Number I have the following cards:
I'd Like To build a burn/field control kind of deck that controls the board until it can ramp out a fatty..
I have Plans to buy the AVX starter Thursday, and D&D starter in a few weeks. And I'd like to buy a Gravity Feed.. Probably Yugioh, Also I may buy The DC starter (although I'm really only a fan of Black Lanterns and Sinestro Corps)
Thus I give you this monstrosity... lol
(X) Is The Number of Di I plan to assign to that Character
2 Energy
-(4) Black Widow- Natural (early attacker/Blocker/Reduces a character by 1 level/Ramp)
3 Energy
-(3) Storm- Lady Liberator (Dodges 2 damage from action di/ Global to change targeted action di to new target for 1 Mask)
4 Energy
-(2) La Jinn The Mystical Genie of The Lamp-Mighty Genie (wipes 2 Sidekicks/cause 1 burn each time he KO's something)
5 Energy
-(3) Venom-Mac Gargon (Whenever he blocks non fist character burn 2 and gain 1 life/Global: Pay 1 Fist reduce a opponent's level by 1
-(3) Magneto-Will to Live (Leaves The field goes to Prep Area/ Hes combo Sacrifice Fodder for Crush Card Virus)
6 Energy
-(2) Professor X- Recruiting Young Mutants (Ramps dice)
-(2) Blue-Eyes White Dragon- Blue Titan (Finisher/ Knocks out Characters/ Burns Opponent for Level of Highest Character)
7 Energy
-(1) The Winged Dragon of Ra-Solar Deity (Mainly just cause I like The Egyptian Gods, Will replace With Super If I ever get it/Finisher/ Chance to remove a Character on a roll)
Action Cards (Do you have to buy 3 of Each of these from your 20 di or do you just get 3 for Each???)
Level 3
(3)Feedback- Burns for 1 each time a Character is Knocked out for remainder of Turn/ Used to Combo with La Jinn and Magneto/Crush Card Virus)
(3)Crush Card Virus- KO a Monster To KO a Monster up to 1 Level Higher. Black Widow and Venom can help reduce them to One Level Higher)
MY H/W is fairly up to date. Want Team Bases, Dark Magician Chase, Summoned Skull
The dice for the action cards are NOT part of your 20 die.
This is correct but needs a bit of clarification. There are both "action cards" and "basic action cards" in the game.
Your "build" will be:
up to 8 character/action cards (for example, the Battarang is an "action" card)
up to 20 dice for those characters/actions
required: two basic action cards, 3 dice each (the colored ones - red, blue, orange, gold, brown, etc).
You don't need to bring 8 character/action cards and don't need to bring 20 dice for them, but there's little (almost no) downside from bringing the max number. Particularly if there's a card with a good global ability that helps your build - bring it and one die as part of your 8/20.

More later,

Oh okay, thank you for the info.
I should drop the Ra In Favor of a Ring of Magnetism then since I now know that you can run it as part of your eight. Equipping it to la Jinn to get bonus burn damage since they are forced to block him.
That being said I should probably drop the Storm since my opponent would be able to pay 1 Mask Energy to steal it from me?
I was also curious if targeting in this game says "target Monster/character, etc"?
Also right now its kind of hard to play. My heroclix tourneys all conflict with the Dicemasters tourney times.

The 1 mask energy is for the global ability - it permits you (or your opponent) to pay one mask energy to change the target of an action die ... so if you're using magic missiles or anything like that and you're targeting a character with it, yes, it could be used against you.
You need to be careful about how you mix cards with globals into your build. For example, if you're wanting to attack a lot, you probably don't want to have the Distraction basic action - as your opponent can use it to push your attackers back to the field. But if you have things that do "interesting" things while in the field (example: Johnny Storm), then you may want to have Distraction in your build, if only for the global.
There's many different approaches to strong builds - focusing on one energy type can work, focusing on low cost figures that just overwhelm your opponent can work, focusing on burn decks (Johnny, Gobby, Pyro, etc) can work, focusing on getting out a few big guys can work (Hulk - any of the three, Wolverine). Or a villain build can be effective.
Just play to have fun - most of the discussions in the dice forums here are about having fun - not about net-decking or getting the biggest alpha strike (that would be Gobby/ Tsarina/ Johnny Storm plus a few others that also hit hard and cost little), but those are $60+ cards (the first two) and are not for friendly games.
Thank you for all the Information. It's much appreciated.
Could you hook me up with a few charcter names in the common and uncommon rarity that are good for control or burn.
Human Torch from the AVX starter is cost 2 Bolt.
Pyro is an uncommon from Uncanny Xmen with a great global.
Magic Missle and Powerbolt are Basic Action Cards (BACs).
Red Dragon is from DND and has a global that deals 1 damage and reduces costs of BACs that turn.
I had toyed with those along with the rare Nova from AVX for burn fun.
Any of the dragons in DND also have breath weapon, which is a form of both burn and control.
Get any/all starters, they come with the BACs and have a decent setup of characters too.

i am picking up the avx starter tomorrow assuming they aren't sold out. they had 2 of them monday when i stopped in.
i was confused by breath weapon. i pulled a green dragon and a copper dragon. breath weapon says pay 1.. but pay one what? life or energy?
i am guessing you only pay with life. but figured i'd double check.
do globals only work when the character is in play?

Any ability text in bold (Breath Weapon, Regeneration, Swarm, etc) is just shorthand. The full descriptions are in the rule books*. You REALLY need to read the rules and don't just assume you know how these things work, as some of them can get a little complicated.
In Breath Weapon's case, whenever that Dragon attacks, you can pay X energy (doesn't matter what kind) to deal that same X amount of damage to your opponent and his characters. Any specific type of dragon can only use this ability once per turn, but different kinds of dragons can each use it.
So if you have 2 Blue Dragons and 1 Green, you can use Breath Weapon twice (once for the Blue and once for the Green) if you attack with those Dragons and have the energy to spend.

No. Global abilities are always active and available to both players.
EDIT * - For that set. Breath Weapon, as an example, has only appeared in D&D so far. It's description is only in the D&D rules. Retaliation, as another example, is DC exclusive so far and is only in the DC rules.
