I have a couple of questions that came up regarding heroclix, and i was hoping you guys could give me some insight. I played this game a very long time ago, and have a lot of pieces from the original cardless versions of the game, but after watching Group Hug on Geek and Sundry
Q1. What pieces do you as a group think are essential to collect for the Legion of Superheroes Team? I have the itch to collect and play again, and i want to know which pieces I have to have in order to play Legion?
Q2. What pieces from other teams are the best options for allowing the legion to copy their team abilities?
Sorry, am New (NOT A ZOMBIE!!!!!) i hope you all have some ideas and insights
Hey there,
I'm an OG Clix player who got back into the game about a year ago and started back with Legion of Suoerheroes pieces. While I eventually completed my collection of all the figures with the keyword, here are some of the ones I got the most enjoyment out of immediately:
-SLOSH Wildfire, who is a very forgiving figure to learn with. He is pretty easy to point and shoot with to do damage and has two stop clicks with regeneration to help you make up for stupid rookie mistakes.
-SLOSH Phantom Girl is also easy to figure out how to use effectively and can be an elite piece.
-The main set SLOSH 001 Cosmic Boy allows for a lot of fun options with double TK.
-I had a ton of fun playing around with Tellus and what he can do with lines of fire.
I've developed some other favorites over time, but those were the figures I leaned heavily on when I was relearning the game. As far as what powers to pair them with, Legion teams tend to work best when they have a strategy of "we can shoot you and you can't shoot us, nah nah nah nah nah nah," which makes Superman TA a logical and thematic fit. The other great way that I got started was by pairing them with one or more of the SLOSH Science Police figures, since PD team ability works so well in formations.

My recommendations follow:
1) Collect the figures from the newest sets; many are common and not pricey ($$$) at all:
From Flash, XS is very good and a common. The Tornado Twins are not particularly strong, but they are a Unique so folks may be willing to trade them for almost nothing.
From War of Light, Rond Vidar was made and he takes constructs. This was a participation LE, and many constructs are available...color doesn't matter for attaching them to him. It should be easy to trade for this figure.
From Superman & the LSH: There are almost no duds here. Gates is awesome for moving his buddies around. Tellus is a SR that is great for LSH teams, but should not be spendy. Sensor Girl, Chameleon Girl and Colossal Boy are amazing. The Gravity feed figures are good (especially for "Welcome to the Legion") but I found myself relying on the common main set versions more...especially Cosmic Boy. If you want a true old-school legion feel, the SR Superboy is great but doesn't get much love outside of fans of the Legion.
In terms of slightly older figures, the Superman Fast Forces has two good figures with the Keyword: Supergirl and Superman. the 2011 Superman set has a good Brainiac 5, Invisible Kid and Sun Boy.
Figures to avoid are: Superman 2011 Princess Projectra and Arkham Asylum Element Lad.
2) If you are going to try to build higher point teams, you can start to consider more 'spendy' figures like the Prime Mon-El, or the LE (Green Lantern Corps) Mon-El. Also, there are some higher point characters that don't cost as much $$$ but are harder to use in most games (e.g. Blok)
Also, Rond Vidar teamed up with XS makes a fantastic taxi service. One that, when played right, can harass your enemy as it operates.
Triplicate Girls are great. Shadow Lass is great. Shadow Lass can stop your opponent's main range attacker from doing their duty all game.
Grab yourself a CUR of the SLOSH and Superman set and you got dang near everyone for a nice price, and to top it off, you got a lot of varieties to go along with them for copying TAs. If you're doing Modern only, skip the Superman for now and just get SLOSH.
