I've been using this combo for years, but am now worried that I've been doing so illegally. The comments on the units section entry for Nightshade suggest I'm worrying over nothing, but I don't take them as gospel.
AA026 Nightshade:
Quote
FROM THE LAND OF NIGHTSHADES: Nightshade can use Smoke Cloud. If an opposing character ends its turn occupying a square containing a hindering terrain marker placed by Nightshade, that character is dealt 2 damage.
AAF005 Flashbang:
Quote
Prerequisites: Smoke Cloud
Choose a Character.
The character can use Smoke Cloud as a free action if it is given a move action immediately before or after using Smoke Cloud.
After this feat is used, remove it from the game.
To be clear, I know that her SP counts for the Prerequisite. My query is, does the Smoke Cloud that triggers from Flashbang still cause 2 damage to opposing figures at the end of their next turn?
I'm querying because I read a thread a while back (which, having just searched the forum, I can no longer find... ) which stated that when using the Automatic Regeneration feat, you are using the 'vanilla' Regeneration power only, no added bells and whistles you might gain from a Regen-esque SP which you're using for the Prerequisite. I would assume this applies equally to Flashbang(?), but even if it does, would the second sentence of "From the Land of the Nightshades" not care about the source of the Smoke Cloud in any case?
TIA
MZA No power in the 'verse can stop me...

The way I see it the 2 damage from Nightshade is only concerned about the markers coming from some use Smoke Cloud, not specifically from the use of SC from her SP.
This is different than if her power actually relied on it being that Smoke Cloud.
It would need to say something more like "Nightshade can use Smoke Cloud. When she does, if an opposing character ends its turn occupying a square containing one of these hindering terrain markers, that character is dealt 2 damage."
That ties the damage to the specific use of Smoke Cloud.
The AutoRegen thing is correct. When you are given Regen as a free action, then it is a vanilla one given from the feat. The same thing is holding true with Flashbang, but in the specific case of Nightshade it has no impact. I'd say you'd need to look at someone like this guy to see a case of where they wouldn't work together.

Yeah. Really her power doesn't even care if hindering markers placed by her even come from Smoke Cloud at all, assuming something else exists that would let her place them.

Like so:
Unless there is a ruling I am an unaware of, saying that choosing "hindering terrain" doesn't place a hinder terrain marker.
I saw the title of this thread and thought I time traveled to 2007 or something! Sorry I don't have anything constructive to add, but I found this funny.

The ugliest match in which I ever played featured that combo on my team.
By ugly, I mean that the number of rules screw ups which occurred during the match was astronomically high, especially considering that this match was me versus one former RA and judged by another former RA.
I remember that my opponent messed up something with his Multiplexes.
I also recall that he'd played Wasteland on the Arkham Asylum map, essentially making the whole thing hindering, but neither of us remembered that and just kept cruising around unhindered.
I'm not sure that a single rule was actually done correctly during that game except for one...maybe.
(Note: This was during the time when Move & Attack was still activated by a move action. At that time, therefore, you could couple it with Flashbang.)
I declared that I was going to M&A and Flashbang.
I M&A'ed, but neglected to actually put up the Smoke Cloud.
I realized this a little bit later.
The question was whether or not I had used the Flashbang feat.
The judge ruled that I had used it even though I'd never activated the Smoke Cloud, so it was now removed from the game.
I'm still not sure I agree with that ruling, but I accepted it and moved on.
