..I think he's a TAD high costed for what we expect, cost wise for a webslinger. that said... I wager I'll be making use of him sooner... rather than later, to be sure.
"A" is "A". And no matter what universe he's from, Luthor... is Luthor.
I'm at a lost for words as to why this figure is 4 stars. Perhaps people are just rating him high because it's spiderman? Don't get me wrong....the dial is perfect. It is spider man to the letter. He plays multiple rolls on a team from a ranged harasser to a close combat brawler. From a Ln annoying tie up piece to a team supporter. But seriously....Even though this is the perfect dial for spiderman, because of his cost this has to be the games worst spiderman figure. I can't justify sticking him on my team for 165 points. They shouldve shaved 2 clicks off and made him 125. This has to be a misprint.
The following is the ONLY way this figure would be worth 165 points. The following in addition to what he already has of course.
Traited Toughness and shapechange but only succeeds on a roll of d6.
7 range value with perhaps an additional target.
Outwit or perplex top dial. Perhaps a special that allows him to use either or once per turn but he can only choose one.
A trait like the following: I may have strange teammates, but they are my Friends- Spider-Man can use leadership. If he successfully removes a token off of an adjacent friendly character he may use either enhancement or empower only modifying that friendly character until the end of your turn

100% agree, but I'd add that another click of life would help justify the cost as well. Maybe a new starting click with a charge/flurry combo and an 18 defense value. He is just so far from being worth his cost as is.
"I remember you said to me once, you said... 'if death ever comes your way and won't let you pass... make sure you scream right back in his face"

Point 1) You made your feelings abundantly clear on this piece back in 2014. Any special reason you had to rant about it again a year and a half later? Is it just because other people like a piece you don't? Can you not abide that other people have different tastes and priorities?
Point 2) You answered your own question as to why this figure is 4 stars. "The dial is perfect." Some people just want to play Spider-man as it feels like he should be played, in his classic costume, and with a nice sculpt.
No iron costumes, stealth suits, symbiotes, Doc Ock identity, alternate universe versions, etc. Just Peter Parker in some gear straight out of the first Spider-Man comics. If you want to play any of those other versions to min-max things as much as possible, go for it. More power to you.
Just please acknowledge that other people have priorities and opinions aside from solely min-maxing gameplay with disregard to everything else. I am actually in wholehearted agreement with you on a great many other of your observations about other figures throughout the unit comments section, but your comments here are over the top.
To be honest, this figure playability-wise is not the bloated monstrosity you make it out to be. It is plenty useful. As you are wont to tell others to do in other threads, you should get creative with this one. Use him on the team base, or in larger builds, if you don't like him as the main character on a low point team.
I picked up this team set recently and I couldn't be happier with it. My son will send Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends out against some bad guys in the near future.
Who would take 2 clicks off the perfect comic representation of Peter Parker spiderman. Then you basically have a slightly betterror version of the 125pot spidey. Amd he'd still be over priced imo. I think this is the perfect Spider-man for people who want to play SPIDER-MAN.... Not spidey 2099 not some armored or alt reality but the main universe Peter Parker. Ntm I'd love to have him just to play with His Daughter May Parker. Ok separate timeline. But that Spider-man in his prime was basically "our" Spider-man. And now that the whole multi-verse spider comics which I was a big fan of he can be put on an all Spider-man, woman and pig team. Which is something I'd love to do. I hope they release the hunters and the scarlet Spider that goes man spider and... spoiler alert I'll stop there but I'd love to play that scenario on multiple maps with portals or something. Does anyone have a suggestion for Dials that would work for the spider hunters? If so I'd love to hear suggestions just so I can play that multi map scenario. This is all my personal preference amd I understand that some people probably hated spider verse to its core but I want 4 or 5 big baddies that you almost can't take down with like 15 or 20 spidermen D women and a pig. Have a scenario where your objective is to destroy one figure that controls the portals while having a safe haven and read the comics again for side missions for each map. If you think that's a good idea please any suggestions are welcome.
I did end up playing this in a fun "Kitchen table" setting with friends. My team was Spider, a gang of Rock Trolls from TMT, and Rookie Scarlet Witch for Probability. It wasn't too bad actually. Sidestep gives Spider-Man extra defense he needs to stall and toy with your opponent. I was even able to "Reach out and grab a bad guy" into a Rock Troll beat down :p
Well this guy just got significantly better with the change to the TA.
And by all accounts he’s worth closer to 75/80 points now so that’s how my group is going to update this one.
