I think the dial is decent for the points and I like his trait giving him a 50% change of getting shape change every time. Since he is one of my major wants out of this set, I can't wait to give him a try on some Justice League theme teams. I don't know if he is going to be better then Elongated Man, since both of them are similar. But I am looking forward to running both of them together on a Justice League theme team.
Pretty boring for our first Plas in nearly a decade. He can tie up somebody from a distance, but has to hit with his average stats first, and then push off of Stealth and a higher defense to make use of Plasticity. The damage power is almost useful, but needs non-free actions to activate so you can't just change his size willy-nilly. I'd rather he just have had Elasti-Girl's trait copy/pasted than what he's currently got. He doesn't have the numbers to be an attacker of any sort so he's relegated to 70 points of ok-at-best tie up.
Maybe I was setting myself up for disappointment in expecting a Doug Manhke JLA Plastic Man who's basically immortal and can battle a skyscraper sized Martian Manhunter, or even hoping he'd get to make use of the Shifting Focus mechanic to switch between a bunch of ridiculous forms. It just seems that for a character based on limitless possibility, this one is pretty damn limited.
Win/Loss: 0-1 So I finally pulled Plas and I knew I had to try him out. I did... Every now and again WK does a dial that is just a truckload of fail - it usually happens when they have no idea what a character can do and don't care about designing the piece and so what often happens is they pull up the old dials and tweak. That is what they did, here. Why Stealth to start? JL and the Con Ex both start with Stealth. He starts with no offensive role and no supportive role so for 70 points its confusing what he does. His awkward SP isn't helpful: Giant is nice as a taxi and giving giant reach (I gave him Harley's Hammer because he needs help!) but he is a big target with a low defense. Tiny - so he can get carried? Why? He brings nothing as being Tiny gives a +1 to breakaway rolls so he can't tie-up very effectively. His defensive values are so low you either make the shape-change or you are taking damage and his life-span is so short that landing on his last 18 is extremely unlikely. 2-damage with a 9-attack? Perplex is just a tease. 70 points is WAY too much for this dial. It's 50 points at best. For 11 more points I'll take the Elongated Man every time. To quote Justice League Unlimited: "We don't need two stretchy-guys".
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
so goddamn disappointed in this. almost totally useless. over costed for a tie up piece, real lack of offensive power, doesn't do much as a support. there's basically no role he fills decently and he's not decent enough in any 1 of them to be a good multi tasker.
his damage power is largely useless near as i can see. plasticity/poison don't work with giant reach and being tiny would just negate the bonus he gets for plasticity on breakaway. if he got the +1 stats like elasti-girl does for her size boost he might be decent as at least then he's doing 11 for 3, but even that's reaching for an ability to make him even semi useful.
his dial just doesn't work either, you start with the 18DV stealth but to make proper use of his tag marker you would want to push onto plasticity, but that then slashes his DV to a 16 and attack to a 9, so good luck getting the tag marker back on anyone. the random clicks of poison are almost useful but don't combo with the tag marker which would have been nice.
ultimately i just can't see anything working with him. everything about him is a mess and despite having a power that literally says "IMMEASURABLY POWERFUL" he does bugger all in game.

In casual play, do some minor repainting on Elongated Man's sculpt, and pretend he's Eel O'Brien. Or just swap his sculpt onto Elasti-girl's dial, and to me that would also be a decent Plastic Man.
Of course, he should still have his super shape-change, and it's not a legitimate Plastic Man, and his dial should be good enough on its own...but...it's something, I guess.
So the cost of the Tag marker is that he doesn't get the ability to crack a reducer except when he has perplex, he's missing Freedom Fighters and ***ALL STAR SQUADRON***, he doesn't get the ability to overlap Plasticity and Stealth, and his Shape Change special provides no side benefit against Battle Fury despite being one of the few characters who can actually keep furiously battling figures busy reliably. I just...I want to cry. He should be able to change speed symbol to become a glider like his Justice League version, he should have access to Incap, he should be able to become a wall and block line of fire, he should be able to do SO MUCH. In the age of appropriately priced specials and traits and the set with simpler dials for budget keywords, we got a figure that should be at least one of those things and is instead neither. Baron Impossible can rage about Rex Tyler all he wants, this is *my* most disappointing figure in the set I should have been happy about. The dial doesn't suck, but geez.
Arguendo of the Beige Lanterns (Pedantry Corps)
Feb 2015: JL Trinity War has have given us the CSA, playable and together. Twice. ROCK ON!
REClixed: Justice for Dmitri Pushkin (your sacrifice will not be forgotten)! New generic Rocket Red @50-75 points while we're at it? Still no 19DV Defender? (WoS Groot doesn't count)
Power Girl AND Bust.
He isn't as interesting or powerful as he should be. For someone that can turn into a skyscraper or a helicopter in the blink of an eye, it's weird that he feels like an uninspired Spider-Man variant. At 50 points, I'd like him a lot more. His dial isn't great but it's not Killer Moth-sized disappointment.
So much better than Clayface, it's silly (but expected for Plas). While not the "swiss army knife," damage sponge or super-sleuth that many were hoping for, this design is very playable and economical. A good Golden Age representation.

:/
Yeah, seconded. This guy suffers from having such a long wait for such a beloved character... at least Killer Moth is *supposed* to be a sad sack.
And for his damage special- why is "Starburst damage symbol" even an option? He starts with Starburst and no sidestep. When you give him a non-free action, you choose one of Tiny, Starburst, Giant, or Sidestep; it lasts until you choose again. They're all mutually exclusive- if he's getting Sidestep from the power, he's not getting Tiny or Giant. So if you choose Sidestep, he's going back to a Starburst anyway. Why would you want Starburst and *not* Sidestep?
I hate "shifting focus" pieces, but if they were going to make anyone be a shifter, it should have been Plastic Man. You could have a flying one shaped like a parachute, a strong defense one shaped like a punching bag, an attacking one shaped like Superman, etc. They really dropped the ball with this guy. IMMEASURABLY POWERFUL but I need help cracking Impervious.
