WALLS
Walls are a special type of terrain indicated by heavy black lines that run along the map’s grid lines. Walls have no boundary lines, but they behave like blocking terrain. Characters on opposite sides of walls are not adjacent The edges of a map are not walls
Many indoor maps have black lines on the edge of the map, but a few indoor maps don't. Some people think they are "considered" walls because of knockback damage. I don't think they are "walls".
Are the indoor maps with black lines on the edge of the indoor map considered as "walls"?
A character knocked back into the edge of the map is dealt 1 knock back damage, but the edge of the map is not considered to be a wall for any game effects.
Edit to add: you actually quoted the part I was trying to find. Unless something changes, whether there is a black line or not, the blanket ruling is that the edge of the map is never a wall.
So it doesn't matter what map it is or if it "looks" like there's a wall. There's not.

Oh my..... so they just fall off the map.... into the void and float away forever.... That's so sad. It's also better than 1 dmg for KB!
That is until I read the link:

So no using it for The Hand ATA etc. etc.
Good to have an affirmed point on this as I'd read before about the edge not being a wall and shrugged it off as preposterous.
In theory, there could be a map with a Wall along the edge. But it would need to be very clearly and specifically marked (the thicker Wall lines extend into squares, whereas the normal map edge borders do not). Even then, it would probably be more trouble than it's worth.
I just checked pretty much all the Modern Age maps with indoor edges, and definitely didn't see any, nor can I think of a map that ever has.
As Lantern alludes to, just because "the edge of the map" itself is not a wall, doesn't mean there can't be a wall on the edge of a map. However, I have noticed some subtle differences that makes me think there are maps with walls on the edges.
For example, "Jean Grey School For Higher Learning". Testing out a few different maps, I find that the inner dimension of a square is roughly 37mm, while if the square has a wall, it measures 36mm. Every square has a thin white border within the confines of the black grid, and these white borders are what I am using for measurements, as these same white borders are used to outline walls. Checking the edge squares of this map, they are measuring 36mm, while the edge squares of other maps, including the other side of this one, "Manhattan Bridge", measure 37mm, so these "edges" are thicker and stick into the edge squares.
Additionally, another thing to note, again paying attention to these very thin white borders, is they usually outline the contents of a single square, but when there is a wall, they extend through all squares. So, for example, looking along the edge of the Manhattan Bridge map, the white lines form a dash, with 37mm of white, then 1mm of black, and so on. However, on the Jean Grey map, the white line is continuous just as it is with walls, except where there is a perpendicular wall sticking into the map, then the white line goes around this wall, further supporting how these lines work.

I kinda hope they never put walls on the edge of the map. Unless the rules change, there really is no reason to do it (beyond give a slight boost to certain figures with powers that key off of walls).
Though yes, if they ever do it, I would hope they go a little overboard/just put it as orange text so there's no argument over it.

Maybe it's just me, but I found this interesting. Has anyone else taken a closer look at the measurements and the white borders?
No, but only because it's wizkids. Chances are that's a result of a trim they put on the image file and is not intended as a wall (especially with the rulings we've gotten and, as I said, there's not a rules reason to have walls).
But I don't think they are stealth slipping walls onto map edges.

Couda sworn the indoor side of the Jokers Wild map had walls on the edge. Mostly so you can attach it to the other side if you have 2 of them.
I stand corrected (happened to have it right next to me). Ace chemicals indoors has two walls on one edge.
Looked at Jean Grey again too (since I'm looking at maps). That one, however, is trickier. They've ruled the yellow portion is actually the outdoor portion and everything else is indoor. If that is true, that still means the entire map (indoor and outdoor) is surrounded by a continuous wall.
So, while Ace is a map with two walls, Jean Grey is exactly what I feared they might do if they put walls on the edge.
Sadly, I don't know if we could get an answer on it because I don't know if the rules guys would or could look at the maps.

so... i was looking at this and was pretty interested...
i recently picked up both of the Jean Grey School maps, indoor and outdoor. one has the bridge on the back and the other, morlock tunnels. it seems to me that the jean grey maps were made to fit together... to create a bigger map... and if so, along the seam or edge that the two maps would join, what is considered walls and what is considered clear terrain?
