So earlier in the month, I mentioned some of the movies that could be used to build a scenario around. This week I did a Power Rangers based scenario. It looked like this:
Very simple, but you'd be surprised how tricky it got! I was surprised that no one brought any colossals to represent the Zords/Megazords or evil monsters. There was a Punisher Van with Punisher (Black Ranger).
There were some fun teams though! 4 players, 2 did evil teams, 2 did Power Rangers. Zordon (Supreme Intelligence) even made an appearance.
April Fool's Day was yesterday, and in the past, I've created 20 different pranks that could be played during the tournament. I use a D20 and whatever the roll is, is the effect until the next prank is rolled. I do 40 minute rounds most of the time, and never play the same prank twice so you should be able to pull a lot of the pranks. I wouldn't prank too frequently, but you want to have a few. Maybe every 10 minutes? You end up doing 12 of the 20. Maybe just a D12 would work!
Some of the ones I've done in the past:
Quote
Players immediately deal 1 unavoidable damage to all figures
All figures are “Outsidered” until the next Prank Roll
Figures cannot be KO’ed until next Prank Roll
Close, Range or Power Actions cannot be used (This one would be one of the 3, not all)
All Hindering Terrain is Blocking. A figure occupying Hindering Terrain is dealt one damage and moved to the nearest Clear Terrain
Highest point figure on each team must immediately have 2 tokens
All figures have Power Cosmic
Each player KO's lowest point figure, awarding points
-2 to All Stats
This week I'll be I'll be doing another April Fool's tournament, but I'm thinking of using it to showcase some of the new rules. So one roll might make Mind Control or Hypersonic Speed to be the new version or another may allow all figures to use Light Objects until the next prank is pulled. I would suggest having a 50/50 split of positive and negative. Throw the players a bone! It's easily customizable to maybe teach some rules that come up often. You can choose to give figures powers that your players don't normally use to show them how to use it.
A table might look like this:
If you try this, it might make all the new changes more digestible, as it will be for short durations, not an entire tournament. From a comic standpoint, this could be like reality shifting back and forth between two realms like in Thor: The Dark World. Or maybe Mr Mxyzptlk is back and tearing up the place!
That's it for this week! Go forth, and Cause a Scene-ario!

I played something similar but not for April fool's. A judge I know brought in Calvinball. Based off the old Calvin and Hobbs comic strip. 100 different rules that have a chance to come in to effect. Players took turns every 5 or 10 minutes, rolling 2 d10's to determine which rule. If the rule was already done they would reroll. The d10's were 2 different colors so they had to pick which one would be the first number of the rule.

WOW! I'd love to see the list of rules. 20 is hard enough to come up with!

It is. At times... when you line up a kill shot and hear "-2 to all stats" and now your 6 to hit for 4 becomes an 8 to hit for 2, or now a fig is out of range/charge distance... it's SO Frustrating!
