Was just wondering if anybody knew if bystanders created from characters (e.g. Old Lace from Gertrude Yorkes and Old Lace) can be brought back in if ko'd in an epic battle?(400points or more) For example Gertrude gets ko'd then the Old Lace bystander, can I bring back the OL bystander? Or No?
Also, can bystanders that appear on character cards be used in any team that doesn't include the character? For example can I use the OL bystander without GY? Or use E.V.A without Fantomex (from DXF:FF)?

No to both, but I do not have ready access to the rules citations at this moment.
In epic battles the "re-spawning" of bystanders only applies to Horde token bystanders. Their collectors number begins with an H (for Hordes) instead of B (for Bystanders). Like Harpua, I don't have the documentation handy. The rules for Hordes originally came out with LotR sets. As I am not home, I don't have them handy currently. I can tell you with certainty that the Horde rules will not apply to standard bystanders.
Do a search in the units for Bystanders, and you will see the difference I am referring to (H vs. B). The Hordes came from things like LorR, Hobbit, WoL, and Fear Itself.

I was about to start a thread to ask a question regarding bystanders, but am hoping it can be answered here, as these were excellent questions.
Are bystanders considered friendly characters?
For example, if I were to use JW012 Amanda Waller, along with JW026 bronze tiger, would he be able to use the suicide squad team ability in order to heal if a bystander created by a separate character were to be ko'ed?
Amanda Waller trait: "there is no squad without the wall: Friendly characters with (suicide squad team ability) may use that team ability to heal when *any* friendly character is KO'ed anywhere on the map.
They are considered characters. Their status of being friendly or unfriendly depends on which team they're on. If they're on your team, then they're friendly characters. If they're on the opposing team, then they are opposing characters.
So can I use bystanders from character cards in teams that don't include the character? I only ask again because this hasn't been answered with any rules citations or reason they can't
[C]Game elements, such as a bystander tokens or objects, that do not have a collector number and/or are brought into the game through a specific character’s powers or abilities, may not be included on a force separately unless otherwise indicated.

You cannot use BST's that spawned by characters (example: Elvis MODOK, Parrot Bob, Left Foot, Pigeons, etc) without the spawning character, but you can use BST's that are distinct from a character (HENRY, Serpent Spider-Man/Punisher, etc).

When I play from now on, I think I will call Opposing characters "unfriendly".
For some reason, I find the phrase "unfriendly characters" much more amusing than I should.
