I'm a little surprised how little overlap there is between our top lists. If I had done a top 10 instead of 5 I don't think there would have been any more overlap.
Yeah looking at the list I could have done another top 10 of entirely different figures.
This was a very fun set. You had a clear plan and design motif in mind, and you executed it brilliantly. This is a set I would gladly buy. Excellent work!
ASK ME ONCE I’LL ANSWER TWICE JUST WHAT I KNOW I’LL TELL BECAUSE I WANNA!
SOUND DEVICE AND LOTS OF ICE I'LL SPELL MY NAME OUT LOUD BECAUSE I WANNA!
Great set Baron, and I'm happy to write up my final installment of reviews. It's the least I can do for all the work you put into your designs (and presentation).
thanks, garganis, I always appreciate your dial by dial reviews
#cc043 Veteran Angar - i'm a big proponent of little-used generic KWs (just look how many times I squeeze herald onto a dial ) but unfortunately, angar doesn't qualify. he never had a musical career before moondragon experimented on his vocal chords and mad him the man that makes men mad . the transition from sniper to mc to crazy mc was my attempt to make the most out of his MoE ta, even before you get to his sp bonuses. I always try to highlight that in my designs when it comes up so that you're incentivized to use the colossal stamina as oppose to it just being something tacked on
#cc025 Veteran Razorback - yeah the exp line is geared towards putting him into an actual vehicle and focusing on his whereas the vet line is for straight out of the box action. i'd suppose his power isn't baffling on it's own but moreso as it's the last thing you'd expect from boar-head man
#cc050 Unique Forbush Man - that's a clever idea, and one I wish I had thought of. alas, I went for bumbling yet meta on his own right. I did add the h.a.t.e. kw to his dial as I appreciate the kitchen sink approach
#cc060 Experienced Iron Man - cool! like you said, we're swimming in iron man dials, so it's always daunting coming up with an idea different enough to be a justifiable reason for another, and that's where all those 1d6 power tweaks with built-in plan Bs came to fruition. and I really tried to zero in on the mk v specifically, so i'm glad that panned out. the super strength flavor text in particular was referencing when he was still "tony stark's bodyguard." the s are so named mainly because of the im3 tony stark dial that had the ability to promote to 75pt iron man dials that had the "upgraded armor" . unfortunately, they only ever made the one, so I always try to rectify that when I build an iron man. I went with the avengers ta only on that line as it was designed before the new ta reveal and the old avengers ta would have simply been wasted on the 125 pt line, leadership flavor not-withstanding. actually, it would have been even less useful with leadership , i'm so glad they changed it
#cc022 Unique Shamrock - if there's any fault, it's definitely marvel's, she couldn't go five panels without saying it. you're not the first to tell me her luck o' the irish is probably overcosted. I was erring on the side of "not borken" so I think the consensus is telling me to drop it to +20. btw, that last click defense spike is to make her an absolute pain to get rid of while relying on her for usefulness since she's not much of a combatant at that point
#cc053 Experienced Iron Fist - most of the immortal weapons wouldn't qualify for k'un lun, as the iron fist is the weapon of that city and the others are the weapons of their respective heavenly cities. plus, it's a throwback to my marvel knights set where I fleshed out the immortal weapons as a subtheme. the references the 5 styles of kung-fu, whereas there are 6 clix so that his own signature maneuver of the iron fist could be included in what was intended to be more distinctive for him. I suppose it could be considered a generic martial arts dial, but hopefully versatile enough that danny could choose the best moves for the situation
#cc101 Experienced Davos - he's gone by both steel serpent and steel phoenix, but truth be told, I opted for davos because steel serpent made for cool flavor text ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. the dial layout was deliberate, giving him an above his weight class top dial (that he can't heal back onto on his own), but the rest of the dial is focused on his chi-vampirism technique, because frankly that's all he did in the bronze age, bushwhack danny and try to steal his chi , and as much as danny went on about it on Netflix, I don't blame davos . I agree on kw silver bullets. it's a neat concept and I think generic KWs should have more interplay in SPs so there's more value to them than merely the option of an unnamed theme team
#cc021 Veteran Storm - yeah it is kind of funny that the thing brought up most about this dial is her weakness. i'm glad it went over well and inject character into the dial. i'm always willing to give up some effectiveness for character in dial design. weather control is incredibly versatile ability and I wanted those options present on her dial. I found the werewolf mechanic was the most efficient way to do that, even on the non-hirsute types (see my hawkeye). this also let me maker her 125 pt dial combat effective for the points throughout so that I could essentially design the 75pt support-centered dial almost as a separate thing. when doing werewolf dials, I like to give a consolation to not making the roll, and the sc typically given doesn't always fit the character type, so for storm, doubling down on leadership felt like a good way to represent that, particularly when you look at her base dial as a more support-centered aspect and the real offense on her wild clicks
#cc012 Veteran Sabra - personality? I tried to design her with an underdog scrapper mentality to befit the mossad she represents, even going so far as to make her set #12 as that number is a pretty big deal in Jewish numerology in representing Israel itself. she is vulnerable to damage up top, but i'd say it'd take more than 1 click to take the wind out her furry-caped sails as clicks 1 & 2 are very similar.
#cc010 Experienced Sunfire - yeah shiro's combination of aggressive arrogance guided my design and fed into my big hero 6 callback, as you say. he's streamlined for that alpha with a potential reach of 16 squares, and he needs it to pay off because like the writers of xmen, your opponent isn't going to want him to stick around long . but his alpha flight ta will definitely help with that. speaking of, I uploaded the image for the icon. no idea why it took me this long to figure out I should just do that
#cc014 Veteran Arabian Knight - there's a handful. but I'd hate for it to be something that comes up later and a dial that should have a kw not. someone's got to get the ball rolling. I think his counter punishment would work best on forgetful opponents, it's certainly something we haven't seen yet so i'd hope it might get explored in different ways
#cc023 Veteran Black Panther - fair enough. he was a part of the main theme, so I had to include him and try me best. at the least, it was an excuse to return to the ultimates ta and incorporate it into his design
#cc047 Unique Collective Man - thanks. he was an out-there design that was going to be either innovative or too much. but different either way. i'm glad folk are digging him them
#cc056 Unique Grandmaster - I totally agree on the minimum of 1 for the opponent action pool and edited it in. I can understand wanting the globetrotting to be optional, but I feel that grandmaster's compulsive gaming wouldn't allow him to make it optional, so i'm going to keep that as is. the wasn't intended for a built in reroll as I knew that was coming, but it's still a press your luck situation in opting for the free action
#cc057 Veteran Mistress Death - yeah that bargain can be a tactically advantageous pyrrhic victory, depending on the relative value of the 2 doomed characters. the intent was the you would choose once per game, but so long as her dial is showing that power, her champion is unkillable. there was a built in foil to the power as it also grants her the non-optional steal energy, so in addition to her getting knocked passed the power she could accidently heal herself passed it as well. i agree on your added wording to balance it out and have added it in.
#cc028 Veteran Diamond Lil - she's not a terribly complicated gal and i wanted a simple but potent way to demonstrate her power accordingly. the teamplayer put just enough of a spin on it to spice her up at full points. given the new rules doing away with transferring damage and how they've implemented mastermind, i can see them doing more reverse effects going forward
#cc029 Unique Smart Alec - in addition to the obvious support efficiency, his 's combination of stealth and the add on effect would actually punish your opponent for basing him to actually deal with him as he's going to gain their abilities, too. it was a subtle way for him to outsmart your opponent's tactics
#cc002 Veteran Flashback / #cc102 Unique Flashback - i was mindful of that problem so that the flashback prime unique summons free ones on click 2, passed the pc. the was intended as the built-in silver bullet to themselves, which i'm surprised to see so soon in the tmt loki (though those are free dials self-KO'd as opposed to these costed ones). additionally, forbush man acts as the set silver bullet as his snafu will be murder on these guys, and by murder, i mean dealing them a click that'll make that pc a one-time use. the simple but necessary palette swap on these guys is the kind of thing that LEs were made for.
#cc040 Rookie Wild Child - awesome! i love modular characters and kyle makes a great way to fill out your team. and regardless of how many tokens you start him with, his ability to come back stronger can make stack that out if you're feeling lucky. i'm very fond of this dial, and kyle's character development in the '90s, so i'm glad this came together well
#cc052 Veteran Delphine Courtney - ha! you caught that, did you? it's another way to discourage countering by including the weakness in the source of power (i did something similar with hourman). i also enjoy putting STOP clicks on the opening click of a lower point value, it adds depth and more value to the higher point value that way. her experienced dial is an homage to the lesser known iim208 guardian (iim011 gets all the press) dial so as to represent her masquerade. additionally, the omega flight sp nerf was designed as a silver bullet to all the alpha flight ta buffs in the set, as well as a golden age use of said iim011.
#cc039 Veteran Box - work in progress! still tweaking this one to get it right. I've shuffled the s and costs so that madison's self-perplex is still 100, but roger's outwit is 95 and jerome's leadership is 90. originally i was trying to keep it chronological, but now it's according to skill level with the rig. hope this take makes the costs more fair and balanced. and i'd be eager to hear from everyone on this breakdown, thanks
#cc019b Prime Wendigo - i like to think of it as wendigo launching at a meal til the end, easier or otherwise . glad this one sings
#cc037b Prime Gateway - for the first question, regardless of both teams having gateway, only 1 will lose the roll to pick the map, and therefore only that team will get the option to go on a walkabout. for the second question, my wording is certainly more simplified, but the blanket statement of all lines of fire being ignored should suffice for each leg of the triangle
#cc046 Rookie Viv - i'm definitely a bigger fan of the og champs, but i felt it was my duty to represent the new era's sole unclixed member. it also didn't hurt that i got the idea of the first and didn't want it to go to waste
#cc049 Veteran Hypno Hustler - i love me some morts. joke characters keep comics fun, especially when you realize that once upon a time, this guy was a legitimate threat to Spider-Man. i enjoyed designing him so that his backup singers backup his incap attack. plus who could turn down an opportunity to introduce "jive turkey" to heroclix?
#cc004 Experienced Mr Fantastic - i am physically incapable of resisting the opportunity to design easter eggs. i need a support group . as i had done a few takes of the fan4 in their own set, i took to this as an opportunity to go streamlined essence, make 'em lower but try to keep all the character.
#cc034 Experienced Human Torch - it has to end sometime, right? eventually we'll get fan4 clix again.
#cc044 Veteran Thing - i skirted the 75/30 breakdown for benji as it was my intent to let you play them all equally at 75 or benji at 120, and one of the other's down at 30 with the other 2 at 75. plus, i wanted to respect him with a long string of reducers and those ramping defense values that make your opponent sweat hitting him so as to best display aunt petunia's favorite blue-eyed nephew that just won't quit. glad you appreciated the price for pushing being kept in here
#cc054 Experienced Invisible Girl - my thoughts were that cr pairs well with a parked stealth. like you said with her original role, she was mostly a scout that got kidnapped so her lesser tieup roll would be represented there, but her main job is to keep that ouwit alive as long as possible. the 30 point dials were all vanilla, hence the barebone presentation, but the at least the 75 has some more bells to her such as the hat trick of defense being her clear signature selling point
#cc106 Veteran Silver Surfer - cool, man. sleek is exactly what i was going for. inspired by adw SRs to better highlight how painful his absence was in that set. you hit all the high points on his dial and understood the varied options i subtly tried to give him. and i'm still surprised we haven't gotten the obvious sculpt reuse of iceman/silver surfer
#cc068 Veteran Gwenpool - sorry this one didn't work. i was limited in putting together her dial based on the format of the other chases and that meant it would be based off the signature moves in the phone game. your SPs are very cool, btw. i'd put those on a fleshed out dial if i were you and post it to creative corner
#cc067 Unique Howard The Duck - this concept is just made to be made in plastic. i would love to see it in form and i'm glad you liked how i ran with it and interpreted his abilities to clix. i opted for generic-only KWs this time since his suit is very distinctive
#cc066 Veteran Civil Warrior - i dig think it was a very smart concept, and his costume looks great. it made for a striking representation of an alternate steve and let me do a callback to cwslop.
#cc065 Veteran Guillotine - hero. antihero? agent of vengeance. in retrospect i read that in bruce campbell voice. she's got a vulnerability to range to be sure, but she kinda needs it given how monstrous she is up close
#cc064 Veteran Mordo - i'm ever the optimist when it comes to accurate KWs. the printed damage language is standard language for an inability to modify it, but reducers come into play still. damaging tk is not an accurate representation of the mirror dimension of the film, but it does align with how the mirror dimension is used in the game, launching the opponent thru the dimension topsy turvey
#cc063 Veteran Yellowjacket - i danced back and forth between giving him printed or not, but ultimately chose to make it a triggered effect since the only time he shrinks in-game is during his tier 3 special move. so it's definitely unconventional to standard shrink-dinks. i'm glad you liked the progression of his laser waldos moving to concentrated fire
#cc062 Unique Adaptoid - while this one breaks the mold of the chase designs, it still was sticking to the video game effect, as the ultimate minion, but bearing the name, i opened up his KWs accordingly
#cc061 Veteran Maestro - yeah it is weird they forget his smarts . this take is so obscenely powerful, it was hard to not overdo it, so i hope his powers convey pain to the max but for a far entry fee. that pw effect is going to make a lot of tears
TOP 5 DIALS
Quicksand - thanks, man, that's high praise. her powerset is very open-ended and holds lots of options. when i design a dial, i start by listing out all the standard powers they could have and then i whittle it down from there. i decided to keep almost all of them this time and endeavored to piece them together in a good flow
Wendigo - awesome, this one was meant to be a mean prime and that reset effect will elongate the length of that dial visciously
Collective Man - cool, like i said earlier, he was deliberately complex. i could've put him in the common slot as a simpler design, but from the onset of this set he felt like an opportunity for a cool rare to me
Letha & Lascivious - awesome. to be perfectly honest, of all the MoE that could fill out the subtheme, these 2 are low on the totem pole, but i just could not cut them when i finalized the list because i could not get the idea for the execution out of my head. i'm very glad with the final product and how these two make you feel like they're jumping in and out of the ropes after slapping palms
Thing - thanks, the praise on this dial from fans of the character means i hit the nail on the head. i was trying to infuse this dial with character and i think that's what matters most in clix. because a dial with accurate character is a fun dial. after all, we're playing this because we like the characters, right?
I had to expand my top customary top 5 list to a top 10. The reason should become evident.
#10 Gibbon - The first of the League of Losers Spider-Man Revenge Squad to make the list. The group overall is hilarious, as evidence by their shared trait. The KO on a crit miss is really the genius of the set. Flavorful, appropriate, and funny as hell - it really shows us what set your designs apart. Gibbon's flurry special power tells the player all he needs to know about this character. And that's what good designs do.
#9 Captain Britain - I really like the idea of getting a classic Britain. The fact that you can replace him with a modern version under the right conditions elevates this dial into the top 10.
#8 Kangaroo - What puts this guy above his cohort Gibbon is the speed special power. Again, the power functions exactly how the character would. You represent the character on the dial so elegantly it is to be lauded.
#7 Grizzly - The last of our Revenge Squad to make the list, Grizzly cements himself as king of the Losers with the damage special power. A little something I'd like to coin as imtoughness. What a stud idea. So simple, so perfect.
#6 Talisman - Tragically unclixed. The design is great, but she'd make the list probably regardless of what the dial looked like. You've captured her early Alpha Flight days very well. The TK/Quake power is freakin' awesome. You don't mind spending an 85 pts action TK'ing with this power. The teleport power is of course perfect for the character, while also making her an amazing piece to field.
#5 Blue Eagle - As you well know, I'm a huge fan of the Squad. Any chance to get a figure couldn't be passed up. You've done him justice and I'd be thrilled if he were to be made.
#4 Invisible Girl - Now we get to the reason this had to be a top 10 list. You know I'm going to include all four of them. I figured it would make the top 5 list pretty boring if 4 out of 5 were the FF.
Anyway, I love me some sue and this girl doesn't disappoint. That 30 points version is bang-for-the-buck gold.
#3 Mr Fantastic - At both point values this guy is great. Giant reach 4, how perfect is that? His damage SP is what I want from a low cost reed. He's just right on the balance of attack and support. Then his tie up and with the OO> 4 range and giant reach, and this guy can get to be a pain in the ass real quick. This would be my go to Mr. Fantastic for sure. (stealth pun)
#2 Human Torch - This is and should be the definitive torch. It does everything I want him to do that WK's has yet to figure out. You've nailed the Nova blast. This is what it is meant to be. Making him take the damage too is just a masterpiece move. Well done sir. Well done.
#1 The Ever-Lovin' Thing - What a treat this guy would be if only he were real. It almost makes me sad. If only... Anyway, this is fine designmanship here.
(Another term I'm coining - you heard it hear first). You've captured the essence of the Thing in one special speed power. Bravo. Anything else is gravy, but what tasty gravy indeed. The 4 damage trait. It is so lovely, that again, it's almost depressing. Like seeing pictures of an extinct species...
In summation, this was a set well done. I've enjoyed perusing your work and thank you for sharing.
i'm very glad all the fantastic 4 made your list and that it's not just from character selection, but that I was able to capture their characterization. but i'm surprised and over the moon that all 3 of the losers made the cut . I tried to make sure their loveability (i'm coining that one ) came thru in the dials' personalities and that thru strategic play and play into their character you can get some value from them
blue eagle doesn't surprise me from a character choice but I definitely needed to peg him down after you covered the whole squadron so well. it's high praise that my take made your list.
captain britain is a surprise addition, activation click and all. it's a very specific take and therefore definitely different from what we've gotten before.
talisman was well-received and i'm glad of it. she's increasingly becoming one of the most prominent absences in marvel clix as they shore up more and more of their unclixed roster. the tk/quake combo is even better under the new rules
I'm a little surprised how little overlap there is between our top lists. If I had done a top 10 instead of 5 I don't think there would have been any more overlap.

that's really cool to me, seeing the different takes. it's quite the honor to me that so many characters appealed to you guys
