Welcome back to another Causing a Scene-ario! I had a request from a player to do a Tag Team game, as our attendance has been getting pretty good. We average about 8-10 players. So I wanted to crowdsource! I have a few ideas, but I'd love to hear some suggestions on how your venue has done it (if you have!).
I was thinking of each player builds two, 200 Point teams. Each player would then be paired up with another player for the tournament. They'd each choose one of their teams and play it.
One thing I know would come up is "alignment". Meaning, how "friendly" is my partner? Would you allow Sam's X-Men TA to heal off of Dean's X-Men figure? Can I attack my partner's figures? Support, JSA/Sinister Syndicate... would they work from my friend's figures. What about turns? Do you let both players on a team go, then both on the other? Or do you go Team 1/Player 1, Team 2 Player 1, Team 1 Player 2... how do you decide who goes first? Each player roll 2D6, whichever player has the highest roll decides for their team?
What about a figure like this:
Could his trait: "I'VE BEEN ON A LOT OF TEAMS LATELY:" key off of my partner?
Just some questions that are sure to come up. So with all that in mind. I think I'm leaning towards:
Quote
2, 200 Point teams
Modern Age
You'll pair up with another player. After Initiative is determined (each player rolls, highest roll decides for the team), the players on the first team will each pick and place one of their teams, and then the second team will choose and place their team.
Turn order will go Highest roll on Team 1, highest roll on Team 2, then Team 1, then final Team 2 player.
Teammate's Figures are considered friendly for all game effects. (JSA, Support etc can be used on Teammate's Figures). You may not give your actions to a Teammate's Figure.
You do not have to match your Teammate for Theme Team purposes.
That's my first draft, what do you think? I have a feeling you could write out possible questions to fill War and Peace, and still have some odd thing come up. I also know that WK had some kind of team up event recently, but I couldn't find how it worked.
That's it for this Causing a Scene-ario! I think it's time for a Dudley Death Drop!
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
You could add some Tag Elements using the Shifting Focus trait. As long as the figures are the same cost value.
You would have 4 figures on your 200pt team. Each figure would have its Tag Partner that shares it can use the Shifting Focus trait. (so really your team is 400pts)
This way players could have a variety of builds.
2 pairs of 100pt figures.
or maybe you want to have a 75pt and 125pt Tag team. Each of those figures could Tag Out (SF) with their 75pt or 125pt counterpart.
Your team must have exactly 2 figures on it, no figure can be less than 75pts.
Each player places one figure in their corner starting zone inside the ring, and the other figure adjacent to that square outside the ring.
A figure within one square of their starting zone may make a free action to tag their teammate into the ring. The figure leaves the ring and is placed adjacent to their starting zone. The other figure is placed into the starting zone.
When any figure is KO'd, the match is over and that team loses the match.
HOT TAG: when a figure is tagged in, roll a D6 after actions resolve. On the result of a 5, immediately deal the opposing figure in the ring one penetrating damage. Of the result of a 6, deal that penetrating damage and give the opposing figure an action token.
ON THE APRON: when a figure is outside the ring, at the end of your turn roll a D6. On the result of a 5-6, heal that figure of one damage.

Edit: Oh, and yeah you use the boxing ring.
Some great suggestions!! I like the WWE feel to them!

At venues I play at have run UCWF wrestling themed events, with tag team matches being the more fun matches. We held them on either a folded up Great Arena map which worked since it was 6x6, or the Grid Reality wrestling arena map. But now with the Muhammad Ali/Superman Boxing Ring, it could work just as well as a wrestling ring.
Our rules for UCWF matches are:
- No ranged actions or attacks.
- Any power that uses a range (Outwit, Perplex, Probability Control, Barrier, Smoke Cloud, Etc.) can only work on adjacent characters/squares.
- Knockback into the ringposts deals one damage, knockback into the ropes will send the character back in the direction they were originally knocked from if they have any squares left to said knockback (This rarely happens, but just in case).
For tag matches:
- If the character in the ring wants to tag in their partner, it's a power action and the characters switch places immediately. The tagged in character can then take an action. (The tag partner is in a square outside the ring adjacent to the corner)
- Any activity from characters that crosses the ring ropes will take one more token than it normally would.
- When a character is KO'd (Read: "pinned" or "submits"), one of their teammates immediately takes their place. So tag matches can become Survivor Series elimination style matches.
