Just noticed(unless my math is flawed) that a FF team composed of veteran members (Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, Invisible Woman and The Thing) equal 400 even. would they stand a chance against beginner to novice players? Myself and some friends just started playing, and I thought it might be cool to try and grab the 3 i'm missing(all but ben) and surprise them with them in a 400 point game. would i get shut down? they own some decent stuff, but none of us even have any characters with support, aside from 3 easy company medics that we share.
Actually, the 4 membes form even numbered teams at the R/E and V levels (200, 300, and 400 respectively). However, even if played to perfection, they might not match up well against "cutthroat" style teams.
Perhaps you could take an all rookie or exp. level team and add on to it?

You could probably beat a novice player.
You really need to protect Human Torch. He is a little fragile but probably the best chance of hurting someone.
Use Human Torch's Running shot and then fly out Invisible woman carrying Big Ben to protect his LOS.
The Fantastic 4 are really a good team with the right supporting cast. Check out some teams thugit and I have play tested and that he has posted on Deckteck.

Run R Invisible Grl with Human Torch for a Nice 21 def from range while in hindering. That makes even FireCheese think twice about shooting. Then you base some one with Mr Fantastic. He gets hit and gets out wit then runs away taking away def powers and the Thing comes chargin in. I does have to be played rather concervitively with patcents. Have fun. Thugit did take 2nd useing the 300 pt team posted here.
I never use E Thing instead of She-Hulk, and if you're not using Alicia Masters you really need to. I'm sure that's what she was put in the game for, that quick heal.
But yes, I've made the FF successful on more than one occasion. It all depends on how you use them. Read webhead's article, I pretty much agree with him on strategy, but not piece choice. But his was a mock up.
Great team building article there. I may have to look into She-Hulk. Out of the 'tanks' we(my friends and me) own Thing has literally ALWAYS come out on top, besting Colossus(V), Hulk(E), Absorbing Man(V), Hellboy(V) and got a VERY lucky match against Doomsday(V). But needless to say when I use Jean Grey to TK in Logan(V) and Ben, I usually come out on top.
The F4 is a tricky team, and I'd recommend against using the basic R200, E300, and V400 point teams. But you can put a very good team together centred on the F4 ability. Webhead's article is a great place to start.
It's tricky to get solid value from the team. You have to be using all your figures together, really as a team, to do it right. A little pushing, a little roughing things up, and properly timed losses are key. Since one lost figure heals 1 on every surviving member, your opponent will likely focus on knocking you off one figure at a time (and if they don't, they're playing poorly). It's odd to say, but all your figures should take a little bit of damage to get the most benefit.
R Invisible Girl and V Human Torch is a wicked combo, especially when you can place both in terrain at distance. V Invisible Woman will likely last you most of the game - 19 defense and stealth is a tough combo. Thing is a great brick, and don't forget about E She-Hulk. U Medusa's value was nerfed a little when they stopped Flurry and Incap from working together, but I've had good experiences with her. All versions of Mr. Fantastic are... disappointing, and I'd advise you to avoid him unless you've got a lot of experience. He's a finesse piece and difficult to play well. If you do use him, throw him in early to tie up a big opponent and hope he lives to get Outwit. Push your other figures to crush the big fig, so when Reed does fall you'll be back up to strength.
Look at the wild cards for some great help. E Black Cat is great in this role. And it's always fun to have Dr. Doom lead the F4. The pogs are a wickedly important part of a good F4 team. For 10 points (Alicia and Mary Jane) you gain two clicks of healing to all your figures. There are other wild cards, too, that work well.
Overall, it's one of the few team abilities that's actually a TEAM ability. Adding one or two Avengers, Hydras, or SHIELDS to a team can be good, but for maximum impact a F4 team should be almost all F4. Their powers really do work well together.
The really tricky part about the FF is working in Mr. Fantastic. He's just such an odd piece that he is the one that gives players the most trouble. He's a great tie-up piece, and his late outwit comes in really handy. If you can figure out how to fit him in, the FF can be a REALLY tough team. I have had some success with the normal 4 on a 400pt team. The only thing you really suffer from is you have to push a lot with so few figures. Thing is a good brick, Torch is a good range piece, and IG/IW are good flyers/tie-up pieces. Mr. F is probably best used tying up either some of the lower point support pieces, or tying up the big brick, letting him take some damage to get to his outwit, then outwitting defense and letting the other 3 wail. Still, its a really fun team. Like some of the others have said though, you are typically better off going with a mix of figs, not just the 4 vets. R Invisible Girl, even though she lacks flight, tends to be more useful with the front-loaded defend at 18. Throw in a good mix of wildcards and you should have success. Important thing is to have fun with them and yell "It's CLOBBERIN' TIME" a lot.
Lead me not into temptation, just point me in the general direction and I'll find it myself.
