I've only gotten to play this guy a few times, and while he hasn't gotten to shine except in my first game with him, I really like the way this guy was made and I can see his potential. The renuyu tokens and his d6 powers are really fun to use, just a cleverly designed mechanic, I think.
Definitely going to have to try this guy out with the Mirror of Mysolljh.
The two do not combine. They both give Shape Change, but you have to choose which special Shape Change you're using. Effectively the mirror is largely wasted on Clayface.
This is still a very solid piece. Shape Change & Impervious is a lot like Shape Change & Super Senses unless penetrating damage is used. My only concern is a rather high prominence of Battle Fury lately.
Better in sealed. With how common penetrating damage is, and clayface’s low speed values, all it takes is one outwit to guarantee some serious damage to him. His AV’s could by higher too going by what you get for the points in modern sets. Also he has no protection from pulsewave like the other clayfaces get.
IMHO weakest SR of the set especially since you cant use the mirror to acivate his trait.
I really want to love this Clayface, and I feel like he's much better than his other, older 125 point version, but he really just gets torn apart by people who can deal penetrating damage; all it takes is one or two botched Shape Change rolls and he's done, and when he's making up almost half your team in 300, he needs a little bit more than that.
I am not sure this applies due to the third line of the Renuyu trait:
Quote
Whenever Clayface rolls a single d6 for a power he's using, after rolling you may remove any number of Renuyu tokens to increase the result +1 for each token removed.
This leads me to believe that whenever he would use a power that requires a roll. The trait does not restrict his Renuyu tokens to only this instance of shape change. If it did there would have been a comma after shape change and it would not specify a "whenever" clause to the trait.
@Hazard I believe they are talking about the first line in the trait, the line that generates the tokens in the first place.

RENUYU: Shape Change. When Clayface uses it and succeeds, give him a Renuyu token.
You cannot combine that with the Mirror's Shape Change, since they are two different instances of the same power. You can either choose to roll Shape Change normally and to get a Renuyu token OR you can roll Shape Change and succeed on a 3 - 6.
Once he had the Renuyu tokens, he could combine them with the Shape Change granted from the Mirror. That seems like a waste of an object, though, to me.
EDIT: Rulebook page 30:

If a character can activate a standard power (or rarely, ability) more than once, you can’t combine any special effects (or even drawbacks) associated with using that specific power or ability. You have to choose only one version to activate and use.
WIN/LOSS: 1-0 Clayface currently seems better on paper than practice. In my one game he relies so heavily on successful shape-change that failing them begins to eat through his dial. The lack of move and attack on several intermittent clicks means sometimes he is in a great location and sometimes he is stuck. This can be a problem for a 125 point figure. I want to try him again to see if this is the norm or an outlier. I like him as Mastermind target thanks to his long life given his lack of Side-Step and traited Plasticity. Renuyu tokens earned: 2
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
I haven't used him yet, but his points and Shape Change/Impervious remind me of CW Captain Marvel. Those two rolls, with PC thrown in, can wreck an opponents first attack. He might not stand up to Penetrating attacks, but this game is still very X-Men heavy and this guy is deadly against them.
One of my favorite characters from the show. Great sculpt and the tokens are a good call to the show. The Clayface is all about the rolls. He has to get some shape change going to add some insurance to future shape change rolls. Would like a little range to show how he throws clay. He should ignore hindering as well.
Clayface's defensive capability is respectable; Shape Change + Impervious or Super Senses. The Renuyu tokens are nice, but it's quite unlikely that he'll accumulate very many, during a game. Not only does he have to be targeted by an attack, he has to beat 1:2 odds. At 125 points, no improved movement, no range, 3 clicks of Charge, no Stealth, and max Speed/Damage of 7/3, is just not going to cut it.
